Or you could jump into the war in 1939. If you are playing the 36 game you are looking at a game that should really go against history. Thats the reason for the extra 3 years. Stop trying to make the 36 game like it should run just like history.

Exactly. I've played the 1939 scenario as Germany. But I haven't played it as anything else. If I may ask, how does the German AI fare against, say, a human U.S. or USSR player? Do you know?

I normally add a five point dissent hit to each of the Purge events for the Soviets, reigns in their massive build programme somewhat.

Actually I cut their warentry instead as that seems to have a longer-term effect.

I made a tech for cutting the org on their armies when barbarossa happens and and another tech to give it back (along with a load of units, techs and supplies in the event that fires it) when germany has reached certain provinces.

Finally to help an AI Germany I give it 6 Panzer divisions and 1000 supplies after they annex the Czechs (this is equivalent in IC to the boost a human player gets from letting his dissent go up before the Anchluss and Sudeten etc. events)

This combination usually results with Germany thrusting deep into Russian territory but then being held and then either being gradually pushed back or gradually advancing.

I'm also toying with the idea that if an AI controlled USSR has taken 1 Finnish province by March 13th 1940 (the date of the armistice) then they get the end of the war event - this is because the USSR gains a large Consumer Goods reduction by letting the war drag on - It's usually still going on when barbarossa starts.
