Well, so... How did you find out about it? :D

I'm afraid it's not as interesting a story as you might think. I had a copy of the manga sitting on my desk at work for awhile.

It's published by Kadokawa Shoten, a manga publisher out of Tokyo and Fujimi. It's one in a series of historic manga, written for Japense high school students. This one is a biolgraphy of Lord Oda Nobunaga. It's ... interesting. :)

The reason I ended up with a copy (briefly) is because I was writing a paper of manga artists. The cover art was done by Kazuma Kaneko, a fantastic Japanese artist whose work includes the art for several game titles including Devil Summoner, Persona 2 and Megami Tensai. I no longer have that copy but this thread immediately brought that cover to mind.

Despite my reference, the manga in no way makes Lord Nobunaga out to be a vampire - but the moment I saw that cover I couldn't help but smile and think, "That is so Kazuma Kaneko."

I think it's interesting how the cape on the cover closely resembles the cape in the book (the gift from Luis Frois) referenced by @chatnoir17 in post 16 of this thread.

y
tssss, weaboos

:p

This made me smile. If you think anyone in this discussion is a weaboo, you haven't spent near enough time on an English-speaking anime/manga forum. :)

I know you're joking, but really there are people who passionately believe that Japanese culture - particularly Japanese pop culture - is supremely superior to anything else created anywhere in the world. These people are weaboos.

By the way, I have nine Star Wars Funk Pops arranged around my desk so they can watch me work. My Christmas Wish-List includes three more Funk Pops: First Order Storm Trooper, Greedo and the red Stormtrooper. At the risk of asking an incredibly loaded question, I can't help but wonder what word would be used to describe me? :)

Kadokawa publish "more serious" genres, while they are one of reading companies about Japanese sub cultures. It is good to see they bridge the both cultural worlds.

Japanese publisher's comics about Japanese/world history are quite good. F.e. that Nobunaga one is checked by a professor of Japanese history at the Tokyo University who was also historical adviser of some Taiga drama series by NHK. I have learned a lot about history by such comics. :)

...btw. how should I react as Japanese when someone called me weaboo? It is like calling westerners as honor white. :D

At the risk of answering an incredibly loaded question, I would say unrecognized workaholic.

Your boss doesn't notice, but the funk pop know, they've seen it all!

I could think of more Japanese than Star wars, even funko poped and despite my own amateurism ;) Wait, don't they kind of fly and fight with sabers? Hum....

I've been learning to read Japanese for about a year now, as part of the aforementioned project. It's still a struggle for me.

Just so you know, my comment about the "interesting" quality of the Nobunaga manga is based more upon the art than the words. The choice of Kaneko as an artist - and that cover, just wow - is fascinating for a history book that, as you say, was fact checked by a university professor. And I'm not saying it was a bad choice at all; I'm simply saying I can't imagine the same thing happening in the United States or Europe. The quality of the art - which I feel is exceptional - and the manner in which it presents history, is so very Japanese. To me, it's an interesting part of Japanese culture.

...btw. how should I react as Japanese when someone called me weaboo? It is like calling westerners as honor white. :D

It's funny because some people get really annoyed if someone calls them weaboos. Or they use it to refer to anyone in the West who knows anything about Japanese culture, regadless of how obsessed they are. Since people misuse the word so much I don't take it seriously.

I suppose in Japan it would be like calling someone "otaku" (although I know the words have two distinct meanings).

Well, assuming English isn't your first language, it means your ability to communicate in English is good enough that they think you're a native speaker. So regardless of the other possible interpretations, you could take pride in that. :)
