Does the cape from the 1.24 art have an actual historical basis in Japan, or has Paradox's version taken some inspiration from Dr strange?

Couldn't really find a historical example and the resemblance is rather striking.

This cape was gifted from Luis Frois, a Jesuit missionary, however it seems that Nobunaga gifted it to Uesugi Kenshin shortly after he received.

This item (赤地牡丹唐草文天鵞絨洋套) exists today in the treasury of the Uesugi Shrine. It is not certain that Nobunaga has actually wore it (Kenshin did).

Yes, these seem to be based more on the historical figure than his stylized drawn counterpart.
