Stop me if you've head this one before... lol, ok no joke. Seriously, I have a problem with 100-200+ people waiting at bus stops, when there are tram AND metro stations right next to it. And the tram and metro go to the same places as the buses.

I can't possibly buy enough buses for these stops. At some point I had like 10 buses on one line and all they did was sit in traffic and the stops still had 200 people. AND I'm still broke!

What am I doing wrong? Why aren't these people jumping on the tram or metro stations which I placed next to the bus stops?

did you build the metro as an after thought hwen the number of passengers got quite high at the bus stop, and same question toward the tram line.

coz in an ideal world, the passengers would go, oh, i want to go here, but i've been stood at this stop long enough, i'll take a different route, but they don't, they will stay at the original stop until their original route has been completed.

So next time these people see the route, they'll say, that way is quicker, i'll take it. But, you already had a big queue, and the busses aren't able to get to the stop, so the number of people won't go down, and sadly, they will sit there forever, until your busses get through the queue, and that could be never.

I had this problem on my first 2 goes, on berlin scenario 1, and now, i can usually avoid it just by planning, and not overcrowding my route. If i've gotta build an inner city tram/bus line, i try to make sure there aren't any roads which are prone to build up with traffic.

Ok, it takes time, and you just can't pick up this game and play it instantly, but i've not found any transport game that you can, and if they have been like that, they haven't been fun.

Righto, lets wait for murray to tell me that actually i hate this game, and just coz i like paradox, thats why i post that i like the game

EDIT : additionally, i'm not perfect, i still get lines that jam up with people, but usually i can see what i've done, and i'll learn the next time i build a line, or if i really can be bothered, i can rebuild it. My biggest problem as i said on a previous thread was that i just added to many vehicles to a line, thinking this would help, and all it did was cause more queues and in make the roads have bigger jams

If your buses are queing for a stop you will definately lose money, each month a bus costs maintenace and drivers wages, the bus needs to be able to make the route within the month for it to be profitable. With that many people waiting in line the bus stop in question must be next to an important structure, bus stops near train stations and colleges etc with generate a large number of people. What I do is have a bus route that stops outside this building and only makes two other stops along the way, this allows the buses to travel around this route without any delay, then connect other bus routes into this quick route, dont share bus stops with other lines, build a bus stop accross the road from an existing stop, the people will walk accross the road.

Vehicle Capacity Mod is your friend. Makes them a bit more realistic and fit proper amounts of people.

Where are they going? Click on a few and see where they came from, where they are going and where they work. See if your network provides them an easy way to get about. You know when you click on a vehicle there's a picture of it on the bottom right and you can click on the picture of the clipboard to get some statistiscs? Do that with the people. I just tried this and it's really interesting the way these people move about. It showed me one of my bus stops needed to be on a different street because the entrance to a building was there; I had never considered that before. It also shows people transferring between lines; maybe a new, more direct line would be better.

Ramp up ticket prices just before it goes dark red. Lower salaries in such way that the smilies are still yellowish.

Do that and you get more cars on roads.
I learn to sell tickets on green/white and you get much much less traffic but I build stops outside the city and later work it way in when traffic are much less.
you have to keep an eye on economy.

That's how it looks in my game. I now built 3 metro stops, 2 tram lines (in each direction = 4), 2 bus stops. No change, I still have an angry mob in my metro station... and the same angry mob in my tram station and a less angry but still too huge mob at my bus stops.

There is definitely something not working out guys. ;)

I can't possibly buy enough buses for these stops. At some point I had like 10 buses on one line and all they did was sit in traffic and the stops still had 200 people. AND I'm still broke!

Of course, you are broke. It could not be otherwise.

The game thema is original and slightly different from the usual kind.

The matter lies with convincing people into giving up their personal transport (taxi, car) to adopt collective transportation.

It changes totally the perspective of the game.

Usually, it is all about extracting as much as possible from customers for a given level of service (service can be poor, it does not matter as long as you make a profit|captive customers|

Here, it is all about providing the best level of service with the money you collect.
It means that the customers will leave away to rely on their personal means if they are not satisfied with the service.

Usually, the main goal is profit. Here, it is the satisfaction of the customer. This is the primary indicator.

Players with bloated stops are looking for hauling as much as people as they can in order to rake in as much profit as possible.

This is twice punishing as vehicles capacities can be insufficient, losing money in the process and it decreases the level of satisfaction of the customers and therefore the number of customers. The company is spiralling down.

The whole goal of the game is to build a network of collective transportation that pleases the population. It is not about profit.

It does not matter if you move 100 people or 1000 people as long as they are satisfied with the service.

So instead of looking for number, you'd better look for efficient lines, ones that deliver green service to customers.

That is the key. When done, you use the money you gain from these lines to deploy new lines to satisfy more customers.

How many lines use this single station? And how many trains this station needs to serve?

I don't put more than 2 lines, otherwise I start to have problems. Also maximum 3 trains per line. And each train goes maximum 3 stations, so not very long path.

Interesting that you see people who can successfully play the game without needing to change a fundemental value as a defence force.

Can you upload a save file? I'm sure it can be easily resolved.

What I usually do is having 1 track for 1 line, and every few stops there is an intersection. Then I changed it to two lines, that didn't work either. I also tried then to split line into 2 half, fully supported. Didn't work either. And as I said, I tried adding bus and tram and nothing changed. It's like those people wanting me to shut down my metro stations. There is not enough space to build 3 metro stops next to each other, however I fear it wouldn't help either.

@todge: unfortunately not, I already changed everything and finally gave up on it. I always use the same savegame so I overwrote it several times already. However, I am sure it'll come up in my next game and I'll make sure I create several savegames and then I'll upload some on my server.

Try uing one of the autosave or quick save mods to give you a few saves to fall back on it it all goes pear shaped. They can be configured to save every month or every few months according to your desire.

You should only need multiple stations serving the same area in a few areas. I've finished only the first 4 scenarios so far and i think i've had a total of 3 stops that had multiple stations serving the same area. The were used to connect different lines to alow interchanging for people.

EG. I might have an east - West route that has a total of 7 stops. These might be Suburbs, Airport, Shopping Centre, Train Station, Fairground, Football Stadium, Hotel. In this instance I would have two seperate lines running. One would run from Suburbs to the Station and back. The other would run from the Station to the Hotel and back. For a line coving 4 stops I'd start with 2 trains strting at opposite ends (hold one in the depot until #1 gets to the end and then add #2 to the line). Add more as you need them.

There are two types of stop on your lines to consider. An end stop and a passthrough stop. An end stop or terminus the train should come in from for example the east, stop, and then head off again in to the east. The pass through stations the train should come in one side and exit the other.

On my lines only ONE line will ever pass THROUGH a station. This reduces congestion, train stacking, wait times and queue length. At TERMINUS stops i'll have two lines serving it. One from the east coming in and heading back out to the east, and one in from the west and heading back out to the west. These two lines should obviously not stop at any one platform.

Essentially you are looking to have only ONE line serving any platform. Having multiple lines serving a single platform can lead to some horrific build up.

Following those rules you will find of course that you need to connect say a station in the north to your east-west route. Thats when I would build a north-south station at one of the more popular stops (Shopping centre or Train Station) that covers the same area as another metro station already there. People will walk between stations to get to their destination. So there is no physical link between a north-south and an east - west line. If someone wants to get from the north to the east (assuming you only have one n-s and one e-w line) then they will go south on you line, off at the spot where they can walk to the east-west and then hop onto another train.

Hopefulyl that mess will help you in some way!

WOW :( I was looking forward to it.
It made me remember SimCity 2, where you could play scenarios, and that means a city with all kinds of problems and you need to solve them.
Scenario in CiM means complete missions. A bit different.
