You guys need to take a breath and slow down. How about playing the game first before worrying about changing it? ;)

Because making a mod requires planning in advance. If you don't have all the time to do everything yourself (especially true of total conversion mods), you first have to recruit a team to help you with the project. Then you need to figure out what all you will be modding and exactly how extensive you want your mod to be. Only then can you even think about actually starting on the mod itself.

So there will probably be plenty of time to play it before we actually mod it.

Just because people are writing about modding doesn't mean that's necessarily what they'll be doing day one (indeed, I'd expect it to be a poor design choice to start modding something before playing a stack of it un-modded to better understand what they're tinkering with), and there's only so much to talk about, so sharing plans about mods isn't a crazy thing to do.

That's not to say I'm not crazy looking forward to the base game though, and while I am doing research for naval modding (corvettes FTW!), if the game wasn't moddable at all I'd still be very much looking forward to it.

M8, half the fun of pc gaming is modding. I know I for one have spent more time modding every bethesda game than playing it.

Devs can't make such rich and powerful modding tools as PDS has for HOI and not expect us to use them. I'll be very excited to finally dip my toes into the world of making mods with HOI4 after seeing how integral, intuitive and well put together this game's modding tools look like they're going to be. It'll be lovely experience before I start working at making my own games and I'm very thankful to PDS for making this aspect of the game and of the community as much of a priority as they have.

I wonder how long you were away because modding is inherent to Paradox games, they are even encouraging it and consider it in the designing process of their games.

Mine was a game with counters, an oob, province names, and more!

I've known I was going to have to figure out how to mod these things since they were all confirmed as dropped a year or more ago.

And since I was only ever good at editing text files, I have a lot of graphic work to understand by the time it's released if I want these results.

So, no time to wait.

The kind you probably want can't be done by a mod. You can hide the 3D model, and change the appearance of the counters, but not their functionality. You can't mod HOI3 type counters into HOI4. Nor can you mod an OOB hierarchy.

I don't really think it is about changing it. It is adding to the game. And when the game company provides the tools and instructions ya kinda gota put it together that this is company driven just as much as it is player wanted.
Remember these guys (and gals) who mod absolutely love the game. If you are also a fanboi (like me) you should maybe think about viewing modders in a more positive light. They are good for the game, series and genre.

As far as I can tell the mods are more about adding different situations rather than rebalancing. Why would you want to wait with adding content, especially when it's easier than ever?

It's exactly because the game hasn't released that we're all talking about modding it. No one knows what the game is going to be exactly (other than devs and betas) so us lesser mortals are just going to have to fill the time talking about what we want to do with it!

Also on a more serious note, paradox only has so many people working on "important" stuff like AI, events, scripts etc. I'm reasonably sure there's a much larger audience modding the game to add detail/improvements where paradox lacks the time to.
