So I'm playing as Aragon.

I've been doing really well, but a few things have been curious.

The Capets got voted off the throne of France, but not Aquitaine. So there's a Capet ruled Aquitaine.

Anyway, Navarra's been doing really well for itself. It conquered a county or two from Castile. somehow, and it was really nice.

I maintained friendly relations with Navarra, we would aid each other from any threats, though we didn't have a proper alliance.

Anyway, during a succession crisis for me, France decided that Navarra needed a rulership change. They attacked and toppled the Jimena government. They installed the Duchess of Normandy-Britanny on the throne.

She was really rude and didn't offer to aid me.

The former king died, and it seemed as if I would have to deal with these Norman Navarrans.

However, his son (The rightful Prince) revolted against the Queen. He wanted his title back.

At the same time, the Bretons revolted.

The Queen was overwhelmed, and she died. Her son inherited, only adding to the situation.

The revolter still was losing, even though the King was fighting two wars. My crisis had been sorted, so I decided to aid the revolt.

I turned the tides. The Bretons won their war, and then the Jimenas were restored.


This made me really happy. Small things like this. The small stories of CK2. They piece the game together and make it truly grand.

Nothing grand like that today. I just clicked the wrong damn option in the Great Hunt event chain. White bear was spared. No achievement get.

I've posted this story before but it's worth repeating.

I started a 769 campaign by letting it run on Observer mode for the first 20 years or so. Miracle of miracles the Ummayads were gutted by a string of religious revolts, most of which they ruthlessly put down. One revolt in North Africa survived however, even going so far as building up to an independent three county Catholic realm in a sea of Shi'ias, Kharijites and Ibadis. I consoled in and decided that my twin goals would be to a) never surrender my Visigothic culture and b) defend and expand Catholicism in North Africa.

A few years later after yet more revolts against the Ummayads in Spain a man appeared in my court. He had the Peasant Leader trait and was Broken, but was also kind and Zealous. I decided to take him under my wing - I gave him an honorary title (Cupbearer) and a small gift as thanks for his efforts against the Islamic hordes. Overcome by my kindness and generosity he died just over a week later, presumably of a broken heart.

I felt so sad after that I couldn't raise a Runestone or memorialize him in some way, so I decided to have feast in his honour and name my next son after him.

Truly the most noble Christian of them all !

If we're talking tales worth repeating...

In my last Abyssinian game, my ruler had a childhood friend. So I let him untouched while I sorted out my other vassals at the reign of tyranny. Then he rebelled... after squashing him like fly, I had to face dilemma: this was my friend I had imprisoned! Normally, just execution would've sufficed. He had a heir so his lineage was preserved, plus he was a seducer, thus killing him would serve the realm and all women could sigh in relief. But to kill my friend? Traitor for sure, but still one of few people who still liked me, even a little?

In he end, I let him off the hook. He was alloved to keep his life and land, but he had to pay ransom and was bound to eternally lead my retinue with his good martial and leadership traits. Men he led were told to kill him should he prove turncloak again... and military service gave him hands full other things than chasing skirts.

He survived this walk of penance. He fought in battles, and stayed alive. And he never rebelled again, and if he even joined faction, I don't remember. Much later, I released him from servitude and alloved him to return home... let him tumble a few maids, he had earned it. Alas, it didn't last.

War. New king. Times of turmoil. Unhazzy memories, unclear fates. He was called forth yet again, and then, at last, he was struck down. I think he spent his last days in his castle in Akordat, incapable, drooling and writhing in pain. He died comatose in bed.

And I don't even remember his first name.
