Since the last dev diary and map videos, I have been wondering why they made the countries so transparent.

I mean, just compare the first video of the map in gamescom, and the last.

As you can see in this capture the map seems like a normal political map, the colours look good and in my opinion everything seems fine.

pFaycoV.jpg

But in this other capture the colours of most of the countries seem too transparent, for example, look at the USSR or Germany, they look too transparent.
The only ones that look fine are Spain, France, and some others.

Don't get my wrong, I really like the new map and the way they are doing it, also in the last screen the weather effects of the map and everything looks good and fine to me, the only thing that I don't like much about it is this transparency in some the countries.

The map, at least in my opinion, no longer looks like a political map when you zoom out, it looks more like a mix of political and terrain map.

So my question is: Why they changed the map in that way? Is because the other map was bugged because of the colours or something?
What do you think about the new transparency, do you like it?

Pd: Sorry for my bad English, I'm from Spain (Europe) and English is not my mother tongue.
Pd2: And again don't get my wrong, I'm loving this game. ;)

I believe they said that they don't want players to keep having to switch between terrain and political. I believe when zoomed in, the political map fades away and you can see the terrain clearly, and zoomed out the colours of the countries become more apparent. This is in-between, so I guess that is why it's transparent. (I either hit the nail on the head, or I am horribly wrong with this post, but that's how I understand it).

I know, but that's not what I'm trying say here. What I try to say is that in the first screens and videos of the map, when you zoomed out to see the political colours of the contries, this political colours looked much lees transparent than in the newest screens and videos of the map.

Look at this captures and compare.

Old map showed in the gamescom.

Oh. Ok. Well I kinda like it to be honest. :p IMHO It's doesn't look like someone just spilled neon paint all over the map. Looks less cartoonish and more serious.

The transparency level looks way too high to me when one is zoomed out. I don't think many players are scrutinizing the terrain features when zoomed out very far. I like the first picture a lot more. It seems like a thin veneer of colored ice has taken control of the map when you zoom out now.

The answer was in a dev dairy. Had something to do with to much colour being on the map when they completely made country's like Sovjet Union red. So with the really big country's they only coloured the border.

I still like the transparency better. Just looks more rugged and natural. IMHO

I believe that is the fog of war effect. They said it would be modeled by hazy clouds.

Yes, a pink Hungary sending forces into the Polish-Soviet border region would be really annoying to see the lines, just as a greenish combined Hungarian-Italian driveinto Bulgaria near the Turkish border was terribly confusing in HOI3....4 or 5 different shades of grayish green in one small area.

Although I like the new way the map works, I think the terrain mapmode in EUIV is a tad bit slower than terrain. Maybe something like the transparent map mod for EUIV?
