They are the 2 riches provinces and largest manpower pools in Greece. Using tons of militia you could wage war on Macedonia easily. I've done it with Sparta. after taking over both leagues since Sparta is poor!

Might have to take a stab hit right away and declare war before alliances are made. Macedonia might get Sparta as an ally they can easily be dealt with.

Before the 1.2 tribute bug I thought it was easier playing a 1 nation Greek minor than Macedonia. You keep taking monthly tribute, gold, and provinces from Macedonia for usually 3 or 4 wars. Doing the same with Sparta. While annexing only rich 1 province nations until either your Bad Boy goes down or you are powerful enough not to have to worry about Bad Boy.

I am very much into either playing "right" the role of a greek minor or try to play it out as historically as possible. Taking advantage of alliances and openings in the current situation is historical and roleplaying. So that's what I do. I don't resort to fishy tactics. I've even neglected the opportunity to colony-spam the balkans, but instead stayed with the 1 or 2 provinces I snatched in the wars I was into.

I am not into powerplaying, my playing style is vastly different than that. Once I am fully confident about my mastery of the game, I will pick a minor and powerplay like you do - just for the heck of it, to feel "how it is". I always do that, play once at least in a "win in any way" way. But that's not fun for me, I prefer to play it out historically.

A question: what is the tribute bug in 1.2?

Your rules are fine but you have to be aware that this is a game, and one that focuses squarely on major powers. The diplomatic options are somewhat lightweight and you're not really going to get very far without turning yourself into a major at some point.

Maximum tribute in 1.2 is related to a nation's last monthly income, so if you do anything to reduce their income (like capture provinces or blockade ports) you can't get much tribute. Tribute in 1.1 was an exploit where you could get infinite money out of a one-province minor.

then it's not really a bug, but a bugfix, huh :D

Oh, I didn't mean that I would keep on playing without annexing or becoming major power - in my current game, I am playing Achaean League (vanilla with expanded map and some mini-mods installed, mostly taken from Enhanced) it's roughly 670 and I've taken over 4/5 of the balkans, including all macedonian lands. But I didn't powerplay or played ahistorically. I just tried to expand, step by step, with no fishy tricks and exploits. Taking my time, allying with the right guys (whenever possible) and most of all taking advantage of the mac rebellions (which is not a gameplay exploit, but a very rational one). Never colonize from a non-state culture province (painfully waited for 7 decades before the first of my Illyrian possesions turned greek culture...). That kind of stuff. I know I could've done the same thing in say 60-70 instead of of 190 years, but it would be less fun in my eyes ;)

I am on my way of becoming a major, allthough Rome and Seleucids are HUGE and the Carthaganians are still very powerfull (lost their islands to the Romans, but along with the Seles reduced Egypt to minor status). Now the real fun starts :D

It's been logged as a bug because they went too far with the fix.

If you completely conquer a nation (100% warscore) you can't ask for tribute because their income drops to zero.

any ideas or suggestion for mid-europe small tribes?im playing with vanilla 1.2

İt has been 10 years now and its quite boring...only action is the event of adopting or honouring ancestors(loyalty wtf??)İ'm playing with suebi and with no bordering 1 province minor my only option is to fight with french tribes..But they are all allied and it will be hard...Btw i cant seem to colonize as my civ rating gets stuck at 30..so any thoughts suggestion will be welcome :)

Doesn't that event give you 1 civ value for all that lost loyalty?
Just take it 20 times ... and you can colonize.

If possible get a trade going with one of your neighbour's to increase civ.

Pick a new country that at least borders a civilized nation. Your civ rating will climb. IT took me 50 years as Rhoxolani to get my civ to 50 then at least your government type can change.

Well, my best advice is to just fly along at max speed for quite a while, or start over and pick a tribe that has a sea route and trade with a civilized country. Which, in vanilla isn't a whole lot... Atrebates, but nobody civilized usually likes you enough to accept grain. Rhoxolani is a good one, good spot, and capital has horses which you can trade with a civilized country fairly easily. Cantabri has iron, which has a decent shot at setting up a trade route, not as good as horses though. Lusitani also has horses... but since they made Spain so easy to colonize to give AI Carthage a break, well... now Carthage will border you in two years and try to kill you.

Don't forget to make sure your research guys and generals are staying decently loyal... if your general or a couple techs would normally be losing loyalty slowly even without accepting the civ event, obviously accepting it 20 times in a row is bad. If you get bored and start a war, make sure you don't do it after you accepted the outside ways and get a stiff morale penalty if the other country just opted to stick with the old ways. You'll get spanked :p

nope my capital who has 20 civ at the beginning gets its civ but the other province is stuck at 30 even when i accept the event...and the loyalty hit really hurt me in the end..Trade was also imposible as nobody wanted to trade..Only 1 other tribe liked me and they had no trade route available..

thanks for the advice guys..i started a war and indeed it was hard but i managed to annex 1 country in french region (i have no borders with it,but i got very bored in the end)My aim was to create a strong tribe in the german region and march for rome, but i guess i have to do that trough french regions..

So i started with a tribe in the french region..they have a lot of bordering contries so it might get interesting..

if u aren't against "little" cheating, there's an event typed manualy in console to raise civ rating in your capital (at a cost of personal wealth of leader),and since there simly isn't any other way to raise civ level in suebi above 50% without having rome on your border (and bein' doomed) you could try this...for me,when i'm playing lusitani,it's easier cozz i have two ports, one with horses,2nd with salt, also im trying to enrage barbs and (with svae-load method ofc) "sending" them right into carthage provinces to prevent them from colonisation...if i'm lucky enough (also if cantabri and vaccei are anexed),i could try to take advantage of carthage while they're at war with rome...ofc save-load method is strongly adviced :p
