What @Van der Gent says is exactly my sentiments. A couple events would make a huge difference in the playability and enjoyment of this nation. It would only be crippling the France, as some claim, if French AI is so poor that it commits suicide in the first few years. Since France does not seem to declare wars without consideration of the emperor in the game currently I don't see how this is plausible.
