Sluggish performance

The latest hotfix 6f46 did nothing for me though, game still runs incredibly slow on the highest speed setting.
I am experiencing the same thing that was described by someone in this thread, i have a quadcore CPU und EU4 seems to use my 3rd core much more than the others.
When I changed the core allocation to use every core but the 3rd it felt like a slight performance increase to me.
For the record: my CPU is a AMD Phenom II X4 830

With the newest hotfix (checksum 6f46) it's much better now. After 5 years it slowdowns to 4.2 seconds for full month at speed 5 (which is almost the same as in 1.7.3). Great job finding these performance issues.

Are you using the AoW dlc?

Yeah, I've experienced significant improvements in performance (no exact figures, but very noticeable - it's only slightly slower than 1.7.3 at the minute, and is thus both playable and enjoyable) with the performance hotfix, and I don't own AoW.

I'm still getting the "Your PC is not powerful enough - you won't experience an increase in speed" message for speeds 4 and 5, but it doesn't actually appear to be true, because a) my computer is (AFAIK) absolutely fine for EUIV vis-a-vis the system requirements and b) 4 and 5 are both considerably faster than 3, with 5 being considerably faster than 4 and not choppy at all.

At this point, I think I can withdraw my report. I might see the game tell me speed 4 is too fast for my PC at the start of the month, and even then its not consistent. Game is running much much faster. Very responsive. Finished a war that was annoying at speed 2 before this patch at speed 5.

I switched over from Windows to Linux a few days ago ( 8.1 install disk wouldn't work). When I had my Windows PC, I never got the "your computer isn't fast enough" message.

But when I switched over, I get it at speed 3.

With my specs, the game is as fast as ever again in the latest beta patch. What a convoluted issue, with people still having performance trouble even now :/.

Another problem- the game in Linux has some pretty unbearable screen tear (it doesn't have the vsync option that I believe Windows EUIV has)

The new patch improved prefromance alot not as good as it was but much much much better.

Just saying. Try to make a new game and go all the way up to 1700.

I had so much problems with my first save. The game was literally freezing every couple of days. I tried everything.

After I accidently deleted (..oversaved) my save I started a new game. I'm at 1700 and the game is running just fine.

At 1717, game runs smoothly. New patch working perfectly. No noticeable difference between 1.7 and 1.8 now. Speed 5. Awesome work Paradox!

checking in again, contrary to what i would have expected, it also seems the game is speeding up a bit as time goes on, the number of nations in europe has probably fallen in half over the last 150 years and i think thats part of the reason for the improvement

Performance on my machine seems to vary with time. For the first five years or so, it runs as fast as ever. After that, though, performance becomes unpredictable, sometimes horribly slow and sometimes as fast as normal.

I thought that the hotfix had fixed my performance issues, but alas. I have done a full reinstall with the latest hotfix, but it's still really slow.
