Well lookee thar. I'm suffering performance issues despite having an i5 with 8GB of RAM and I've got the same issue as others.

People with good systems seem to be getting this error. There is definitely something going on here.

Have to nip this in the bud - my system is made of cardboard, sellotape and chewingum, by today's standards (dual core, 6 GB RAM, 1 GB GPU from 2010). Still, 1.7 ran quite well on it; still, 1.8 doesn't; still, I don't think my CPU is really going at four billion megahertz. :D

Look familiar? 0 system memory and 4 billion MHz processor. That's not exactly what my machine is, but it looks awfully similar to other posts here...

We see this with both AMD and NVidia graphics cars, and both intel and AMD processors, on 3 different versions of Windows. I'm half tempted to swap over to Linux and see what happens.

I have searched everywhere, and I can't find a solution. the game was like this forever but never really started to bother me till AOW expansion came out. I have run my game a speed 4, and hovered my mouse over the time, and the game said my computer cant run this speed. Now my computer is not new but it should be able to run this game without a problem. i see people on YouTube running speed 5, and there months flying by, while mine barely make 7 seconds on speed 5. I at least want to be able to play on speed 4!

Same problem here. Game ran fine at any speed pre-1.8, now it is incredibly choppy even at speed 3 and gives the message about my PC not being good enough at anything higher.

I also do not have AoW installed, tried compressing saves to no avail, and have the same message in the system log showing the bizarre CPU speed:

Not to spoil this thread, but unless people without the problems have a different system.log, wouldn't that just mean that everyone no matter what is getting the erroneous log? That doesn't have to mean anything at all other than the fact that the log generation is broken.

(I also have that same weird number, but I don't lag particularly much more than before. Sure I've noticed a slowdown, but nothing game breaking other than the fact that the trade overlay is laggy as hell now, but I think it always kinda was).

Good point. To add to this, I tried getting AoW and then testing again, since many others with the problem also seem to not have the expansion. Strangely enough, my game is now significantly smoother, although I still get the same "your PC is not fast enough" message on speed 4 (but not 5!) even though these speeds are actually each faster than the last now. I also still get the same message in the system log with the crazy CPU speed number.

I have a slightly different problem - I don't get the lag; runs great at speed 5, but I can't start the game in ironman mode at all. It also crashes if I try to look at my cloud saves. I can preview my old obsolete non-iron saves, though the maps are all wonky of course.

If I start a game in non-ironman, I can go for less than 10 minutes before the game just crashes to desktop. My log differs a bit from the above in that my log is correctly recognizing the available memory (rather than saying 0) but it is incorrectly recognizing the processor, like the above logs. I've not purchased AOW.

My game did have problems in the last version, in that the game would crash to desktop after about a year of in-game play. More or less depending on if I was at war or not, it seemed, and also building tons of buildings at once seemed to aggravate the situation. But speed-wise no problems at all, and even in 1.8 speed 5 runs great. I'd been mostly holding off hoping that 1.8 would fix that problem in the last version, but this is definitely worse.

You could be right about the erroneous log. But my system goes above the recommended specs for the game, and can run speed 4 and even 5, but it really starts to become choppy and stutter.

when i play the game, my CPU usage only goes to about 30% for this game. I probably have a bottleneck somewhere, but not really sure where. I checked my temperatures of CPU and GPU, and that was not the problem either. Changed priority, not a change. This is not really related to AOW for me, but something is really screwing this game up us selected few.

Whatever causes this bogus figure, I do not think it is related to the performance problem. At least one person I know who does not experience the performance problem has this bogus figure too.

Possible causes for performance issues:

- compressed save files - turn off, and/or opt into 1.8-hotfix beta
- 32bit Windows, inadequate memory for 1.8
- file corruption - try a full clean reinstall, including deleting all files (other than saves) under documents/eu4
- 1.8/AoW bug - we have reports that people with AoW active do not see the performance problem (UNLESS it's from one of the other causes above)

Everyone reporting this, please state:

- that you are in the 1.8-hotfix beta
- that you have done a full clean reinstall since then
- that you are testing with NO mods active

IF it still happens:
- are you on 32bit or 64bit Windows
- how much system memory/available memory do you have (dxdiag.txt)
- do you have AoW installed and active?

I forgot to mention earlier. I am running an AMD fx 8320 8 core 3.5 ghz processor. The figures I gave earlier are for Windows 7 64 bit. I am not getting or using Art of War until this works. I notice no changes between hotfix and regular patch 1.8. No mods are active. I have not done a "full clean reinstall", I have verified integrity of cache.

As it happens, because 1.6 broke MP for Linux (I am still sour over that, does it work again yet? No indication that it does thus far), I made the windows build in the first place. However, I do of course still have the game on Linux also. Here is my system.log from Linux:

I'm not sure how to give the dxdiag information from Linux. I believe the drop in performance to be similar...it's certainly very different from 1.7 on Linux as well.
