Since all threads are getting closed about the issue on the main forum and being told to come here...might as well throw mine in here.

I have an i7 3770 with 8gb ddr3. Performance shouldn't be an issue for this game.

Playing ironman. The days tick by and then on the 8th day or so it kind of halts and starts up again. Days ticking by used to be constant and now they are choppy and inconsistent. I've disabled compression of saves, before even starting up, having read about that on the forum already. It doesn't seem to help. Performance is terrible.

I've tried loading as different countries and it's more of the same. Any solutions to this yet? I'm obviously not the first person to have this issue and I'd like it resolved.

Please try a full clean re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "delete local content" in Steam-EU4
- manually delete all files and folders left under Steam/EU4 AND Documents/Paradox/EU4
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.

If that doesn't help, post a dxdiag.txt (you can delete everything after the end of the "Sound devices" section for brevity) and your Documents/EU4/settings.txt. From your Documents/Paradox/EU4/logs/ directory, post system.log . Open setup.log in notepad and search for 'checksum', post that line only here too please.

And Run speed 4, and check the tooltip at the date. That tells you if your pc is of required spec or not. If not, you'll consistently get a tooltip saying it cant handle the current speed. At speed 4, a day should never take more than 1 second

Not OP but I am having the same issue. I deleted all advised directories, re-installed and ran a Steam verify. No luck. Compress saves has also been turned off.

When running the game at speed 4, I intermittently get the tooltip that my PC is not up to spec.

Something does seem strange to my layman eyes - the CPU speed as reported in the system.log file seems off, to say the least.

I did what youve told me and right now the game doesnt start.
I clik the steam icon, then the screen of europa universalis appears with all the dlc and then when a press launch, it says ,,europa universalis sttopped working"
Finally the 3rd time it lauched, no improvment in performance unfortunatly.

I'm also having some problems, the game is not running smoothly.
One month is about 7 sec at speed 4, but it's stuttering.
Tooltip also says my PC is not fast enough and I have 3.4 ghz quad.

Not OP but I am having the same issue. I deleted all advised directories, re-installed and ran a Steam verify. No luck. Compress saves has also been turned off.

When running the game at speed 4, I intermittently get the tooltip that my PC is not up to spec.

Something does seem strange to my layman eyes - the CPU speed as reported in the system.log file seems off, to say the least.
The CPU speed is not way off. It's exactly what you can expect when running an application that only puts full load on only one of the cores of an i7. What you see in action is a feature that Intel calls Turbo Boost. The i7 is designed for a certain power/temperature ceiling. That ceiling is what you hit when running a full load on all cores. When some of the cores remain (mostly) idle, the power draw and temperature stay well below that ceiling, and that causes the CPU to increase it's internal clock.

It's an automatic overclocking feature, if you will. :)

...four billion megahertz? I'm not going to ignore the explanation, but the first thought that came to mind is "why isn't the CPU taking off and flying to interstellar space".

I do in fact have Turbo Boost on.

However, I am skeptical that this is the explanation for such a gaudy figure. First of all, WeissRaben has pointed out that four billion megahertz is a bit high. CPU-Z reads my processor as maxing out at 4100 MHz under full load. This leads me to believe that the value is, indeed, erroneous. Secondly, I reverted back to 1.73 and my system.log now reads 3400 MHz, which is what it should be. This leads me to believe that 1.8 has caused the erroneous reading. Last of all, both WeissRaben and I read the same CPU speed on what are obviously two different CPU models. This cannot be coincidence, can it? I think that whatever is causing the performance problems is causing the erroneous value. Well, perhaps causation is too much to presume but they must at least be connected.

Like I said, though, this is coming from a layman. Please feel free to correct mistakes.

When we'll be able to know at least a simple "it's normal/it's not"? The last time I had a problem like this, at game release, it took three weeks to have it at a playable speed, so sorry if I'm a tad wary.

Interesting, I'll run that by them backstage. OP, are you seeing just such a bogus number there too?

Wasn't able to do the operation last night but I should have time for it tonight, at worst tomorrow morning.

When we'll be able to know at least a simple "it's normal/it's not"? The last time I had a problem like this, at game release, it took three weeks to have it at a playable speed, so sorry if I'm a tad wary.

That's what I'm afraid of.

Apologies if this isn't the right thread for such a question, but where actually *is* this specific system.log file on a Windows 8 machine? I was experiencing slowdown yesterday (I haven't played yet today), and I'd be interested to see if I'm getting the same numbers as others, because my machine was absolutely fine on 1.7.3.
