Playing as Nat China/ Every few months I look up at the top and notice my Stability dropping - 51%, 48%, 43%... There is no listed cause in the Stability tooltip?

Is this something that naturally occurs? There haveb't been any negative events, other than a "Chiang Kaishek accused of corruption". If that is the cause, fine whatever, but I'd like to know for sure. Most events cause one-time hits, not a steady drip-drip-drip.

Could there be an enemy agent in my territory? Best way to fight if this is the case?

If it's an enemy agent in your territory, increase your counter intelligence by either purchasing agency upgrades or placing your own agents in counterintelligence. You should start capturing enemy agents fairly quickly

Does the game notify you of this? I'm at 6 counter-intelligence atm with threat level at Serious, and nobody seems to be getting busted.

It notifies you if spies are being captured. It's possible no one is trying to spy on you

I have two agents on counter-int, and upgraded the counter-int twice. Do I need more?

I think you should be fine - if it's not enemy spies I don't know why your stability is ticking down. What DLCs do you have? And are you runnning any mods?

Just curious... did you take either the "Grain Tax" or "Forced Loans" focus? Those decisions can lower your inflation and consumer goods quotas, but have some pretty steep stability hits attached to them.

One mod for terrain graphics. One DLC to La Resistance

So you hovered your mouse over the stability icon: what should your stability do ? Stay stable or grow? what are the listed factors?
+15% for Party popularity, +15% for Cabinet minister, -7% for Grain Tax. Nothing saying -0.005% per day for [X}, just flat modifiers.

Just curious... did you take either the "Grain Tax" or "Forced Loans" focus? Those decisions can lower your inflation and consumer goods quotas, but have some pretty steep stability hits attached to them.
I took Grain Tax, but that should just be a one time penalty, shouldn't it? Is it -7% a year or quarter?

I've never taken that Focus myself, but yes, it looks like it should just be a one-time hit to stability.

Not sure if you've also taken the "Forced Loans" focus. That one unlocks a decision if you have Inflation, where you can pay 100 PP to lower inflation, but it will also cost you -3% to stability and -3% to war support. But, I assume if you've been using that decision you would have already mentioned it.

Its a -7 % penalty for the whole gametime, but, as you stated correct, it counts only 1 time. The same way how your party-popularity counts.

Nothing saying -0.005% per day for [X},

Strange...never saw such a small value. If this is a "miswriting", and it comes from a formula, it could mean 1/2 % every day, which is a huge value!

Example: The formula for the grain_tax value is written as -0.07 and this is "translated" for the tooltip as 7%.
If the -0.005 was directly put in the tooltip, without being translated, this could be a reason. But this is only an assumption.

Oh, just to clarify, there is no hint on the tooltip that there is a steady "loss per day", just the flat one time penlaty from Grain Tax.

Ah well, I'll just have to slog through it and see hat happens. Thx for the replies everybody.

Grain tax doesn’t cause loss per day. AFAIK, no Chinese focuses do, although many affect stability in one-off adjustments. As others have said, it’s likey spies. When you look at intelligence map mode and hover over the shield over your capital what does it tell you about enemy agent activity in your country? (None - green, some - yellow, or red- a lot).
