slow af now?

I haven't played stellaris in a little while was waiting for the next big dlc, however it's running slow as hell on fastest speed, same as speed 3 usually would, my computer just blitz through any other paradox game on speed 5, now it takes 2-3 mins for one year? what gives? sort of feels unplayable at this pace

edit: upon testing, speed 5 is EXACTLy the same as normal speed

I've restarted and verified the game (x2), the title menu is even slow!

Checked drivers all up to date.

It's pretty slow for me too. Must be something with settings, but I am not sure what exacly.

It's certainly not faster than before so far at least. In 2215 and speed is about the same or slightly below previous patch.

Hi all,

Fixed the issue for me, I feel like uninstalling will do the same job but I had data limitations.

The Fix:
Created a back up for the game
Uninstalled
Restored the back up for the game
Deleted all workshop mods - (I had a lot of them) - (I also didn't have any of them running when I started, when it wasn't working)
Done.

I have no idea if it was the reinstall, the mods or both that were the issue but this has fixed it for me.

Steam tab up the top left.
Back up / Restore game
Select back up
Select Stellaris
Select a folder to backup game too, I use the DVD option (it creates less files but they are larger)
Uninstall the game
Then go back up to Steam tab up top left
Back up / Restore game
Select Restore game this time
Select Stellaris
Hopefully it'll work after that.


In regards to mods, yes I did not have them activated I just removed them from subscribed which may have helped me.
So Steam workshop unsubscribe to all.

I did just get another slow down in the game unsure why but I just exited as I'd had enough for the night but there was a significant improvement after reinstalled and unsubscribing from all the workshop mods.

I hope that PrivateSpooks solution helps everyone who experienced a slow down in the early game, for everyone else who didn't experience a sped-up early game, pretty much all of our performance improvements touched on things that will slow down your mid to late game, so thats where you will see most of the improvement.

If the game is behaving strangely the first thing you should always check are mods. Disabling them all should be the first step for troubleshooting. Especially just after a patch when mods haven't been updated yet.

I'll go further and say you should always deactivate mods on a new version. Only use mods that are 100% guaranteed to work with the version.

Agreed. Using mods that haven't been updated yet is just asking for trouble.

What do you mean by "back up the game"? Which folders should I make copies of.

My observer game had 5 second months (ideal max speed) for the 60 years i was running it. This is on a clean install of 2.6.1.

That kind of slowdown happens sometimes when an update is performed. Alternatively you can try to rollback to a previous version then update again to the latest to see if it is enough. Has done the trick for me in the past. Should be no need to perform a full reinstall. The updater seems to be messing things up on occasions.

The game is running extremely slow to me since lockdown and after I purchased Federations DLC. As someone already mentioned above, even on higher speeds it is not much improvement and my buddy is always lagging or I lag if he is a server. We have recommended specs PCs, same internet as before... Internet is not congested as we are able to play other games normally. Same thing happens only with Imperator as well, and even when we play EU it is slow.
My question is, why are only paradox games extremely slow for me these days, are the Paradox servers overloaded, or does it actually go through servers anyway or my buddy and I play independently from Paradox Servers?

Let me know if you need any additional details. I'd be happy to provide them.
(P.S. we don't use any mods on any paradox games)

We experienced a really slow and sluggish experience while we played multiplayer on the beta version (stellaris_test). When we went back to the default release version everything was smooth again.

I think fastest is way to fast now. Has made multiplayer painfull since it's way too fast for my enjoyment. Most of these multiplayer games run on fastest all game.
