I'm new to HOI III and since I can't find the search function for this forum I'll make a post.

My reinforcements require 0.20 a day, so I allocate that and then lock that slider. The next day it unlocks it and keeps allocating 17.xx IC to it for some reason.

It won't stay at 0.20, it keeps going back to 17.xx and it's ruining all my production.

Is this a one time bug or is this something everybody experiences?

Problem that Paradox might or might not fix. It seems to be that paradox set up the sliders to lock on that number selected rather than the % toward the needed number.

example- supplies needed: 34.0
You lock slider at: 34.0
It should be that you are locking the slider at 100% of the required supply rather than locking at 34.0 no matter how the supply requirement changes from day to day.

This would virtually eliminate micromanaging the sliders. I know, you can have the AI manage stuff.
I dont want the AI to do anything for me. I would much rather have a good AI opponent. But I dont want the sliders to be so needy.

I made sure it was on manual control and that the AI had no control over them.

This kinda ruins HOI III for me completely. If I can't even control my IC then what's the point?

I guess it's time to re-install HOI II

Did you lock ALL your sliders ? This won't work, keep one (usually supplies, or upgrades if you're in the middle of massive upgrade and are short on IC for upgrades) of the sliders unlocked.

The real problem is with buggy slider "lock" which doesn't really lock at the set value, this happens with IC and leadership (technology tab), the numbers keep changing even though there is nothing influencing them. For example you might lock all or all but one leadership sliders to a specific value, return to the map and return to Technology tab again only to notice one of the values has gone up by 0.03 and some other has gone down.

I think it doesn't do either of these, but locks to the % of IC assigned - which causes additional problems when your IC goes up and down. There also appear to be 3 different ways it stores values - The production UI (display and slider) works in units of 1/100 of IC however when you exit this it converts it to units of 1/100 of a percent (which is what is saved in the save file) It then uses this to determine actual IC assignment in units of 1/1000 IC.
This is why sometimes when you click on need you get a value that is 0.01 more, or the values matches but is in red - or why closing and opening the production can change the values.

slider handling have been improved for 1.4 to increase the precision of the settings

Seems players have many different ways of doing the slider management; lots of combinations...

Here is a method that has worked well for me:
Don't lock any sliders.
choose the prioritize "reinforcements" option
Run Production under player control

The result of this is that the ai always tries to keep reinforcements adjusted to the current need. Then, it will try to optimize CG to eliminate any dissent. Next it tries to optimize supplies; followed by production, and then lastly upgrades.

Jumping from 0.20 to 17.xx can be fixed by unlocking one of the other sliders. When you set your reinforcments from 17 down to .20, it tries to assign the extra 17 IC to another category. However, if all the other production categories are locked as well, then this excess has nowhere to go, so it just goes back to where it came from, ie. reinforcements.

As already suggested, keep your supplies and/or upgrade sliders unlocked so any excess will dump into those categories. That way you won't be wasting anything. Obviously if you don't have any upgrading to do then you won't want the excess going into upgrades.

Have fun enjoying the game.
