Even better!

Except I've had real problems with suicide when I've tried it-- I seem to fail everyone I want my character to die!

The most reliable method is this;
"With The Reaper's Due, a set of "mourning events" can occur after the death of a lover, friend, or rival. The lover and friend versions each have an option with a 50% chance to become depressed. It is only possible to get a mourning event once every 10 years."

Get seduction focus, seduce, make a lover, and murder her. This gives you 50% chance. Just make the right choice when the options come. If it doesn't work, send your newly made lovers to your high intrigue courtiers - spymaster is the best. Soon you will get some rivals. Get some high Personal Combat rival and have duels.

Still alive? Let's hope that your rival spymaster has a murder plot by now and you have plenty of rivals in your court to help him. If you have an army of rivals among your courtiers and vassals, they will do a quick work out of you. Don't be a coward and hide though. And don't auto-discourage plots. If you see plot against you, give the conspirators council positions to help them.

No, but even when I have a depressed character- I don't know the chances on it, but you click "commit suicide", then choose a method, then it's been failing at that point and you are locked out from using commit suicide for some time frame.

What option do you use? I always use poison and don't remember if that had ever failed me. Beside, making rival spymaster and more rivals work. Invite all the free courtiers and imprison some of them so they will all hate you. If you get a child then gift-imprison and execute it at birth.

Nothing works? Well then, you can abdicate your title to your brother by trying to imprison a vassal until you fail, and surrender to the rebellion.

Most of the methods should usually succeed unless you are Immortal.

If you don't have The Reaper's Due suicide always succeeds, so you could start with it disabled, suicide, save, quit, and reload. :)

Inspired by this thread, I'm thinking of starting a new save as the 769 Duke of Pomerania.

I want to try for the Slavic Union, Never Start a Land War in Asia (start in Western Europe, control Eastern Steppe), and Norse-East (have Norse Culture, control Kingdom of Mongolia) achievements in a single game. Here's my reasoning:

1) Pomerania is the easternmost realm in the Western Europe region;
2) Pomeranian culture has Hussar LC bonuses and can create the Slavic Union;
3) Pomerania is coastal and has Catholics nearby, so plenty of early game raiding targets;
4) I can take multiple Romuva holy sites, reform it, and form the Wendish Empire "along the way" as I expand eastward to form the Slavic Union;
5) Pomerania is close to Germanic rulers I can invite and land to preserve Norse culture for conversion after making the Slavic Union.

Seems pretty doable to me, as long as I'm willing to slog my way all across Siberia. Anyone see any reason why this wouldn't work?

It'll work, you'll just need to be patient. It would also feel weird to me to form the Slavic Union and then be Norse, but it's your game and it is an efficient way to get the achievement.

I tried to do a duel, which of course I won, then I tried to poison myself and failed somehow.

By then, my brilliant strategist son god cancer and died leaving me with no direct heir and I was less than a year from crusade so I stopped and ended up living almost another 50 years not dying till I was 81 and had forged the grand crusader bloodline. . .
