EDIT: furthermore, enabled population control does not affect happiness anymore as well? Awkward...

You need the slave guild civic. 40% of your pops will be slaves under stratified society.

But that's a huge problem too because you don't necessarily want exactly 40% of your pops to be slaves, you want stuff on minerals/food to be slaves. It's an even bigger program because manual pop assignment in 2.2 is such a micro-intensive process.

We need caste system back, badly.

I think you can game it by unlocking job priorities one at a time. Slaves are also weighted to get on jobs they have bonuses in, although there might be a bug there.

You can, it's just incredibly micro-intensive vs. the 2.1 system, and it still doesn't address the fact that you're unlikely to have exactly 40% of the jobs appropriate for slaves, not to mention on the wrong worlds etc.

Academic Privilege was not nerfed, it functions as it's flavor dictated privileging academics(specialists) at the expense of the working class.

The thing with caste systems is, you don't control the size of the bottom caste.

Is it possible for my main species (who are enslaved) to be freed/promoted to regular workers? I want to replace them with a newly conquered (enslaved) species.

I havent been able to do this. Why would I want to ever name a species as slaves vs just leaving them as a resident and allowing them to become slaves? Why is my main species with "Full Citizenship" being put into slavery? If that is the case does everyone go into slavery no matter what?

Do those few ruler jobs really matter? Couldn't you just make a planet with only xeno slaves on basic production? I mean I haven't tried, but what happens to leader jobs if whole population is enslaved?

The only obvious solution here would be to get "extremely adaptable" for your race to make them universal administrators of the conquered planets. But "alien box" got incredibly nerfed as well (I only got +5% bonus from the green pill - I agree, it was previously OP and crashed biological ascension).

What I am saying is that in order to be the slave lord in the early game you just have to spent 4 points for extremely adaptable in order to manage your slaves, because caste system simply disappeared. Disadvantage created by this change should disappear later on with terraforming and genetic modifications, but still... Caste system was a really good alternative for owning robot pops and I don't understand why it would be removed in 2.2 (effectively, authoritarian in 2.2 starts without slaves unless he is going to choose "syncretic species" option).

Also, I noticed that academic privilege got incredibly nerfed and there is no practical difference comparing to utopian abundance and other happiness-boosting living standards. Flat +15% happiness for all specialists seem to be not that much effective in comparison to "stratification" effects?

EDIT: furthermore, enabled population control does not affect happiness anymore as well? Awkward...

I'm playing a xenophobic slaver right now, and you don't need the adaptable trait at all when enslaving other species. Low habitability only increases consumer good consumption (and maybe food or something, I forget), it doesn't affect happiness at all. So the solution is to simply bring two or three of your ruler species to the new planet to work as administrators/rulers and enforcers, and have the entire native population working in the mines, farms and generator districts. You'll be paying extra consumer goods for your ruler species, but since you only have a handful on each xeno planet, it doesn't matter.

Also the caste system hasn't been removed exactly, it has just been changed. As an authoritarian you get a special living condition policy that makes your normal workers get almost none. They're "technically" not slaves, but use so little resources that they're almost the same.

If the other species are slaves, they should be only allowed to do worker jobs, right? Of course this doesn't forbid your main species from worker jobs, but if you make sure to have just enough main species pops for every ruler/specialist job and leave the rest to be filled with slaves, it should work.

But I still have a bunch of main species slaves.
Now when I conquer new planets I would like them to be freed to become specialists/rulers so the newly acquired slaves can take their jobs. In general I have way too much slaves right now (enabled population control for all but main species so they stop growing slaves into unemployment).
For role-play reasons I actually do not want any main species slaves anymore, but it doesn't look like this will be working.

You do have your main species as actual slaves? Isn't that just because of Slaver Guilds civic? Whole point of the civic is to enslave your own species. If you don't want to have your main species as slaves, just switch that civic out and just use xeno slavery like all other reasonable space empires.

You do have your main species as actual slaves? Isn't that just because of Slaver Guilds civic? Whole point of the civic is to enslave your own species. If you don't want to have your main species as slaves, just switch that civic out and just use xeno slavery like all other reasonable space empires.

Shame on me, I never play as slaver, only doing it for the achievement. I actually didn't realize it comes from the civic. I will change the civic, thank you :)

What you want is Stratified Society. It's the new Caste System - your "free" workers (actually enslaved by poverty) are almost as cheap as actual slaves, and since it's technically not slavery it avoids a lot of the disadvantages of that institution.

Academic Privilege can be good too.
