No? I don't see why they should lock each other out, but you definitely don't need one for the other. Slave guilds explicitly enslaves part of your own, primary species.

It was kind of impressive (or arguably cheesy) how powerful you could make Syncretic Evolution with slavery in 2.1.
slave species: Strong Industrious Serviles (taking leader debuff traits) gives you +30% minerals
government: Fanatic Authoritarian plus Slaver Guilds gives another +20%
species rights: Chattel Slavery for another +10%
Fairly early you can get Slave Processing Facility for another +10%
+70% minerals in the early game was nothing to be sneezed at. Now it's merely(!) +55%.

You don't need it now, since syncretic pops are forced to be workers and have a 10% bonus for this strata, so they are already the perfect workers who will never be promoted.

It was quite powerful before but right now with authoritarian + master of evolution it's almost absurdly efficient.

Slavers guild forces you to have 40% of your species enslaved.

Which forces 40% of your species to be workers.

Syncretics are forced to be workers.

Slavers guild + syncretic evolution = too many workers.

That is why they're incompatible.

You can still enslave the syncretic species if you are Authoritarian or Xenophobe. It probably makes sense to do so since the syncretics are forced to be workers anyway, so there is basically no downside to enslaving all of them.
