So slaver guilds works per species and per planet at the same time if I understand things correctly. This causes odd situations in my current slaver guild game as even planets with 10+ pops often have zero slaves because there are just one or two pops per species around.

It is a wee bit annoying and a flat 40% slaves per planet would be nicer. Unless we can get the old caste system back. ;)

The current way has one advantage though. If you mix enough species you won't get surplus slaves on an ecumenopolis and with a lot of micro you can get single species planets where things work out ok.

Agree that it should be a planet wide 40% that's used for the calculation whenever a potentially free pop is born.

I had the "opposite" problem when enslaving whole alien species while having slaver guild: I though, well ok, let's move some free pops of my main species to the planet to fill the higher strata jobs... Newly grown pops of my main species become slaves as well... Great...

That would also be solved by your suggestion: It would mean that on planets where there are lots of alien "always"-slaves, the main species would mostly be free pops which would make sense I guess.

Pure slavery seems pretty lackluster now that you can't drag and drop pops anymore. Unless we are talking about livestock for food(way better than farming) or domestic servants to get a lot of pops on a planet/habitat.

What's worse is that slaver guilds seems to trigger the xenophile faction's "No Species-Wide Slavery" issue.
That's -25% faction happiness you can't get rid of without reforming government, which in the case of slaver guilds can result in a large economic upheaval.

Yeah I noticed that too.
It does not work like the old caste system in that regard.
As long as there is one pre-FTL species in the galaxy and you got an enclave in your territory you can still hit 60 approval without temporary modifers though. Not that much worse than the other factions. I guess I should aim for a Federation which should make it the happiest faction.

I do not really mind that though as politics in a multi-species slaver empire should be a bit difficult. You can't delete the egalitarian faction which was easy with caste system
