Slandering, the new murder?

I've played as two characters, Ayleid in the Valenwood, and both characters have died from the same causes: Others slandered them so much they killed themselves. Is this WAD? I had no real way of stopping the slandering since people from other courts of the realm also decided to partake in it.

I don't mind it reducing other's opinion of me, even to levels of -30, but it rendering me insane and suicidal? I think it's a bit too much. Opinions, anyone?

Are you using 0.1.6? Slander was pretty strong in 0.1.6 but it got nerfed on the SVN. You'll still see it from time to time, but it doesn't happen nearly as often.
