City skyline default region size is what? 6×6 km i believe. Have fun having a realistic sized airport on such a small region.

I know that making a 100% real sized airport would be hard to a CB game, but making them too much babysized is just as bad, the devs should increase at a minimum of 6x the airport size and add one more road to it. Take a look to some modded SC4 airports, they take a good part of the 4x4 map and some of them takes more than that, but they're realistical enough to satisfy the eyecand aspect of the game.

Ok, I'll be getting really confused, if you're going to keep drastically changing your posts every minute. It would be a lot easier for you to just reply in different post.

My simple point is this:

Cities skylines map size is 6×6 km or roughly 36 square kilometres. In real life, this translates to roughly, a city of 100.000 inhabitants or a bit less (depending on the density).

So if your criteria for city building is realism, then you clearly see that you need a bigger/realistic region first, and only then you can progress in demanding structures designed in realistic proportions.

You just can't have proportionally accurate structures in disproportionally tiny region. It just won't work. If instead of 6×6 km cities we had 36×36 km cities, then we could talk about realistic airports, but right now, with these region size limitations, you just can't have a realistic airport, it would easily take a quarter to half of the entire flat and buildable region area.

now we're in the gray area of what constitutes as "realistical enough". That's a big gray area, and there will always be someone who might want either bigger or either smaller airports than ones available.

This games airports surely do have problems: no hangars, no parking lots, disproportionally large airplanes, strange terminal, and yes ... short runways.

zukMxFZ.jpg

At least SC4 airports had all the functionality sorted out (except with wierd or non-existant parking-garages), although they were just plain-ass tiny if your criteria is "realistic size".
Anyways, no point in arguing here, since we agree airports are too small, i'm just trying to say it's not a deal braker for me, i'll be satisfied with a proper DLC or airport mod, while you hold on to your idea of "everything has to be pristine perfect out of the box". These are just two seperate ways of thought. You're not going to convince me, and i'm not going to convince you.

I'm sorry for the editing thing, some forums that I frequent don't allow double posting and I'm annoying with grammar errors '-'

And I agree with you on the 2° comment of yours, the airport/port size isn't a gamebreaker for me aswell, but I'll only avoid to use them.

Maybe I'm wrong but I think people are confusing the 6x6 areas as being different cities. If I've understood what has been said so far by the devs, their idea is that as you accumulate more squares you expand your one city.

I think people are thinking of these squares as being like the different areas in SC4. I may be wrong but I don't think this is the concept in CSL. Other cities are imagined somewhere on the highway system; you're just building one city.

I think devs made it pretty clear in their first gameplay premiere how they imagine these city tiles to work. You will start with one 2×2 km tile, and then you can expand in any direction but with a limitation of 9 tiles. (limitation can be modded away)

So yes, we will have 9 tiles of 2×2 dimensions which is 36km^2 in total.

Watching that video at 2:22.. That power plant is TINY!!! Haha. .terrible, come on CO.. get it right, or don't waist your time making another failed city builder that was "Oh so close.."

CO.. this is what a coal fired power plant looks like... not a house:

1703bb5.jpg

FIX IT PLEASE!! DON'T SCREW THIS GAME UP!!!

Also, instead of building a power plant right away, I think that cities skyline cities should be allowed to attach to high-powered power lines that run through the region, and not build a power plant if they so choose.. Just pay a fee for the energy. There are plenty of cities with no power plant in them.

I'm all for realism and I would like to see bigger airports, factories and farms, too, but frankly, it's not extremely important. It's mostly eye candy without any impact on gameplay. The game won't be ruined by lack of realistically sized airports/farms/factories/X at all - it will simply look a bit worse than it might have been otherwise. Get your priorities straight, folks. It's the simulation part, the meat, that you should be worried about, because that's what makes or breaks the game.

For the last time...

Region-size is tiny, that's why buildings are tiny. You just can't make wonders inside 36km^2..

How are you people still not getting this???

While I always like things to be as realistic as possible, you hit it right on the head, Cybvep. The simulation is the key here.

Perhaps down the road their will be a modular, ploppable system for large power stations, airports, etc. Maybe it will be DLC, maybe a fan-made thing. For now, I'm willing to except them in vanilla as is provided the simulation itself is robust.

I'm not terribly bothered by the small airports, but really I think the best solution would be to have small planes rather than weirdly scaled down four-engine jumbos. Having 737s or A320s landing would make a lot more sense.

Pointing out reality is "destructive" how so?

No, but the way you're pointing these realities makes you look like a retarded kiddo looking for attention. Try to use more arguements or even a bit of sarcasm to state your point instead of: "AAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHHHHAHHAH DIS GEME WILL FAIL AND SUZK HARD IF YU DON PUT DIS POUWER PLEMT WITH 3 COOLEM TAUERZS AADN IT MUS LOOK BIGGER THAN THAT FAGGERTS, IT WILL FAIL MISERABLI"

Don't do this yo, it's ugly, not for them, but for you.

I think you're pretty much spot on there. I don't mind the airport size either, I can completely understand the gameplay decisions that have led to it, though I do hope some sort of Airport DLC will appear in future. The one thing that baffles me though is, why, having had to implement the smaller airports would you draw attention to/exacerbate the fact by using models of such large aircraft. Using 737s or A320s is a very sensible suggestion in my opinion.

I just don't want to see yet another goofy, failed city simulator game made that doesn't sell well. I want CO to make a lot of money selling a successful game, that's why I am giving my input.

While I don't need a power plant to be the actual size it is in real-life, I don't want it to be the size of a house either. There has to be some middle ground- but having a Power Plant that looks A. Nothing like any coal power plant ever in existance and B. On a Plot of land that is just as big as most other factory tiles is not good.

Not every map should need a power plant anyway, just use high capacity power lines, and have a power plant or two on one map tile, if any power plants in the city at all.

Also, regarding the "maps sizes are small" comment above- No they aren't. The maps sizes are actually very generous, and seeing as how you can take up 9 tiles, putting a larger, more realistic power plant or two in one of those tiles would be an insignificant amount of land.

If we don't tell CO right now what is wrong with the game, they're going to go with it. This is our last chance to help them understand how they are potentially about to screw this game up which otherwise could be excellent.

I understand your points and I agree with you that some important buildings are too much babysized like the airport, seaport, powerplants, farms, etc; while some others are too sized like the metro, but the maximum you would manage by cursing their project that way would be a mute from their forums. I understand your frustrations with nowadays cartoonish simulators.

We must have some patience because the game is apparently being rushed to meet a deadline, they won't give us something too fancy and the gameplay will have a lot of limitations like the 4x4 thing that apparently they aren't bothering to fix, but their road systems and small residential buildings looks nice :)

I wanna correct some guys that told we'll start with a 2kmx2km map and upgrading it 9 times. The map size will be 36kmx36km, then we'll start with a 4kmx4km. Simcity 4 4x4 map size isn't the same 4kmx4km of nowadays 3d city simulators.

EDIT: If you want a City simulator that sold well, how about Simcity 2013 that sold nearly 3M copies? If you want that this game has nice sales, then buy it :)

To correct you again, we will start with a 2kmx2km tile and upgrade it to 9 tiles in any direction to something that has an equivalent area of a 6kmx6km map. They said the maximum map size contains 25 of the 2kmx2km squares which is 10kmx10km. It has been clearly explained by the devs many times.

We all want a good game so it is still in our best interests to share our opinions in the hope that they will listen, there is no harm in that. I actually really like his ideas and I hope that the size of some buildings are increased even if it's just a little bit.

edit: having smaller planes landing at the airport instead of A380s would really go some way to help reduce the problem with the proportions of the airport.
