Right, I'm playing an egalitarian shared burdens empire with some robots and citizens rights for my AI so as not to get a rebellion.

But with that, I don't see a reason to upgrade to synthetics. My consumer goods will go up a lot and it's not like I'm in need of ruler pops. Does anyone else skip synthetics now with consumer goods it's own thing? Not sure if 10% more robot resources is worth 25% of my Empire suddenly needing CGs

I did turn my robots into synthetics with citizen rights as a Materialist, egalitarian and xenophile megacorp and honestly it was one of my worst decision in that entire game. Not so much for the CGs, as I had some in surplus, but for the housing costs, I had a lot of robots and as I couldn't resettle people I stopped the growth of my planets when housing was running short. So giving the robots citizen rights INSTANTLY sent all of my worlds into massive overcrowding, fortunately I finished the expansion tree a few months afterwards and was able to mitigate the problem but it still was a real pain to deal with, and simply made me stop playing egalitarian in 2.2 altogether.

Researching Synthetics seems to be a bad idea in nearly every case now. I like the idea of there being drawbacks to giving all your robotic workforce sapience, but at the moment the drawbacks mean that the best approach is to never research that tech. Grab sapient combat computer tech and grant AI rights to avoid the rebellion but don't research synths. Even as a Mechanist Cyborg empire I'm refraining for getting synths.
