Skipping Prussia and going straight for Germany

So it's about 1530 and I have every core needed for Germany (Brunswick is still a vassal). I am Brandenburg, but in my various wars I was only able to secure Neumark and Danzig from the Teutons. Their alliances throughout the first century precluded me from taking much more. Now Ostpreussen is owned by a free Lithuania and I am not in a position to fight them and their strong alliances quite yet. In fact, Danzig is the only Provence outside the HRE that I own.

My question is: will I miss any great events that are Prussia only?

Forming Prussia gives you free core on all Prussian land as well as a few Prussian only mission that gives you claims.

The only thing you're missing is missions to conquer the intervening land that T.O. lost. Everything else is tagged Brandenburg (Prussia doesn't exist) / Prussia, or is a mission for Brandenburg when T.O. formed Prussia

Note that if you ever do conquer Osten plus several of the other lands, the decision gives you a core, meaning you don't need to core it yourself, just conquer and push the ND

Forming Prussia might make it difficult to become Emperor, as you have to convert to Protestantism or Reformed. It is even harder to pass reforms, if you have a goal of unifying the HRE or just making everyone your vassal after forming Germany. In my Brandenburg game I skipped Prussia for this simple reason, even though I had all the TO's land.

Becoming Prussia changes your primary culture to Prussian. This gives all of your Saxon provinces a reason to revolt, so take that into consideration. I went from Brandenburg to Germany and I have no regrets.

They're the same culture group, though, and you'd likely have Saxon become an accepted culture right away, as well

yeah i always skip Prussia, mostly becomes reformation is so weak. So do you wanna lose a buncha your allies for a few missions? if yes form prussia, if no form germany.

Also as you are already brandenburg you have the same national ideas so it is not as bad as a different nation not forming prussia.

Brandenburgs idea's are Prussia's ideas

It's all about the flags. The Prussian flag replaces Brabndenburgs Red eagle with a menacingly black one... Very sexy.

The german eagle is a low pixle count POS that needs to be reworked. :/

But Germany loses that tasty + 20 Discipline from Prussian NI. Main reasons for forming Prussia is Free Cores, Cheap Ideas (Protestant) and keeping Prussian Ideas, instead of German NI. Also, the free cores allow you to DOW using the Reconquest CB, which generates much less AE than conquest.

You don't switch to Germany's ideas when you form it as Brandenburg / Prussia. I don't think it swaps anyone's idea set. If you didn't have a unique one and can form Germany, you already had the Germanic idea set.

I ended up going straight for Germany and plan on conquering all of Germany proper before I expand much beyond my borders. I have a nice long-standing alliance with France and have been on and off buddies with Russia (they have my line on their throne, so I'm hoping for a PU). I'm OK with the color actually. I think it will look better when my country is bigger and there's more of it. It's way different than any color in the game, and while it's close to Hesse there's something about it that makes it POP.

Since I formed Germany from Brandenburg I'll have the good NIs and I also went Protestant a couple of months after the Reformation because I was at war when it went off. I have taken enough missionary decisions that I can convert anything I come across. So far I have Diplomacy, Offensive, and Innovative ideas. I would love to become a republic for Plutocracy, but the prospect of somehow getting Russia into PU is just too tempting to leave off the table. Not to mention I have so much hatred inside the HRE that I would get gang piled while trying to let the rebels win.

This game is pretty normal all things considered, but some crazy things like that have happened. England got a PU with Naples pretty early. Poland and Lithuania never bro'd up. Provence was pretty damn big at one point, having inherited Lorraine and annexing parts of Brittany and gaining some parts around their northern and southern French holdings.


Here's a nice confluence of colors. We have Germany, Hesse, The Palatinate, and Provence all in one small area.

Hehe I never form Germany nor Scandinavia. Prussia and Sweden all the way!!! If you're Brandenburg you already have the Prussian ideas, only difference is the cores, and of those you get to many cause why would you have cores on the entire Baltic In any case, I'll say the colour of Prussia is way cooler than the colour of Germany. Plus... Prussia dude... PRUSSIA!!!
