was watching a stream with Kiva and something she said stuck out to me.. just need to clear it up.

gunnery is for direct fire and gives bonus to hit
tactics? gives indirect fire bonuses.

pretty straight up till you get to LRM's. My question is does gunnery effect LRMs in any way or just Tactics? ive watched the steams and LRM's seem to fire both ways depending on LOS. Hence my question

Yes, LRMs firing in a straight line are gunnery aka direct fire.
LRMs shooting in an arc over obstacles are indirect fire. thus tactics.

I think I've seen situations where moving and firing LRMs indirectly with low gunnery high tactics pilots had better chances to hit than firing in a straight line. But I might be wrong about that, maybe I've forgot about other factors playing into this and it was highly situational

Far as I know, LRMs still use gunnery. Certain levels of Tactics reduce the indirect fire penalty (and reduce the range at which you take minimum range penalties)

Basically, the game gives you a base change to hit. Gunnery adds a bonus based on skill ranks. Indirect fire and minimum range are penalties (which get partially countered by high tactics). Long range is another penalty, as is small size (light and medium mechs), evasion chevrons and a few other things.

so gunnery is your To Hit with everything and tactics just makes indirect fire with LRMs easier? that makes more sense

Gunnery increases your to hit with everything, yeah. The majority of the calculation isn't actually gunnery, though. Gunnery is +2.5% per point, so Gunnery 5 is +12.5%
