I'm sorry, I like stylized graphics/icons. This mod looks like a colorful child toy. (to put it politely)

Luckily you won't be forced to use it.;)

Well, Scytth got involved in other projects long time ago. I was caught by real work for good. But I'll try AoD for sure (and it better be good and bugfree), so who knows... Maybe it'll make me waste my free time for icons again. Damn, even writing down this reply I made one sample :)

Anyway, old icons - as I understand - will work in AoD without problems. And if only ones i.e. for siege artillery are missing it's not a big deal (but are you sure heavy artillery will need an icon, I mean, it will be division or brigade?).

Yeah, c'mon. How can you NOT use the SKIF? When my units upgrade I ALWAYS go immediately to check out the new picture (silly, I know, but it adds to my enjoyment.)

I hope their good work can be extended to cover any new models from AOD.

Great, thank you for the first new AoD icon - Skiff icons (my current favourite)
ScreenSave65-1-3.jpg
make a huge difference to enjoying the game and it would be great to have a complete set for AoD; I think that you are right though that not that many new units should appear. The only new division sized units I can think of currently are the Heavy Submarines as others, Assault Guns, Rail Artillery are all brigade strength and I'm hoping that the late game Arma units like 47 inf and 51 inf will be stretched out later into the game.

+1 As always.
And yes the only new division sized units are the Heavy Subs, so SKIFF should be almost 99% compatible with AoD.

From your mouth, to the God's ears :)
No disrespect to the artists, but it's not my thing. Original HOI2 icons were great, you could see in an instant what type of unit you are selecting.
With SKIF I have to roll my mouse over to see what unit it is. Pointless.

That's the point. It's a mod for all those who played with miniature soldiers ages ago and love military uniforms and equipment (in a manner true to real history). Hardcore fans I'd say, who don't have to roll and check, because they knew a thing or two about WWII equipment and can easily tell what troop this may be. If our aim was to make icons clear and as easy to recognize as possible, we would simply produce white blocks with written "infantry I" - half of a look and you already know what it is.

Thanks for the explanation :) Somehow, why would somebody use these icons always eluded me. But then again, I've never played with miniature soldiers.

Cheers

I substantially agree with you, for I don't like vanilla icons but at the same time I want to recognize the unit's type & model at a glance. That's why I use icons which resemble vanilla ones in style but are colored and look like the real model they represent. Take as an example this one, done by myself (Japanese interceptor III - Nakajima Ki-43 Hayabusa):

Anyway, old icons - as I understand - will work in AoD without problems. And if only ones i.e. for siege artillery are missing it's not a big deal (but are you sure heavy artillery will need an icon, I mean, it will be division or brigade?).

I believe that siege artillery will be a brigade.

More important would be icons for large submarines (2-3 could be enough) - there will be a shortage of those for sure even if older icons are adjusted and added to fill in any gaps.
