SKIF - icons & The Graphic Improvement for hoi2 - AOD

I wonder how long i must wait for this be made for AOD. Well first the relase must come thats for sure.
Hopefully there will be planes for this sooner or later.
Skiff should have been a natrual part in aod relase.

Shouldn't they be compatible though? AFAIK one of the devs said that putting in SKIF should be a possibility from day 1 without altering the mod in any way. Well the same supposedly goes for all mods.

Yeah they should be compatible. But there is also new unit types, like rail artillery and heavy submarines. So there won't be any custom unit icons for those. I would love to see a SKIF version of a Krupp K5 or something similiar.

Gameplay for me though, comes first.

SKIF is usually free anyway. But since I made only part of SKIF, and Scythh and Kristoff were the guys running it they should be asked before this goes into AOD 'officially'. As for compatibility/new icons - I'm not sure if we'll do anything new for AOD, but who knows....

The thing is you don't own your material used in the icons and therfore it can not be a part of AoD as that would be copyright infringment.

Oh, yeah - true, we did use other pics to make most icons, which was ok for a non-commercial mod, but I guess not for a full game. Didn't think of this....

Even if nobody cares in the end in 99% of the cases, just the 1% chance off devastating lawsuits scare companies from doing cool stuff.

Make it an unofficial patch. You can't add it to the existing game and sell it "as-is", since that gets you sued. But adding it as a patch...

Well in the context of a few 70year old photos and or art drawings that have been so extensively modified that I'm doubting even the original artists would recognize them...

If the art was in the game at full screen instead of miniature pixel art. Then ofcourse copyright and such should have full effect. But really some applications off it are rather silly.

If enough credit and sources to the art was given It would probably have opposite effect. It would Increase our AoD fans interest for that art and perhaps even buying stuff from those artists that made the pictures in the first place.

SKIF is the only mod I'm looking forward too. Those generic unit graphics are too... generic.

I'm sorry, I like stylized graphics/icons. This mod looks like a colorful child toy. (to put it politely)
