Could you upload it somewhere else too ? I really hate Megaupload and I have the feeling I am not alone...
I, too, loathe Megaupload (and the misnamed Rapidshare). I don't understand why people keep using these crappy file sites when there are much better sites like Savefile and Filefront that don't have access codes, download delays, ad-spam, popups, and other such nuisances.

I've uploaded the file here: SKIF icons for CORE

The instructions are in a readme file in the top level (SKIF_Icons_for_Core_by_Sensemann) directory of the archive.

In all honesty, your site both had popup ads and a banner displaying annoying sound that made me jump in my chair

So don't you go hatin' on rapidshit!

What banner display, and/or pop-up? Oh, you mean the one I don't see because I use Firefox (with the AdBlock extension), plus HostsMan (with an up-to-date list of spam addresses).

It does only contain air and naval icons for Germany.

BTW: I'm currently working on British navy and airforce, but not constantly.

Sensemann, I'd like to do what you've done with SKIFF icons with my own personal favourites like Ostheim's german models in particular. But HOW? Would you be so kind as to give me some pointers? Also, wtf are the two little boxes/three little boxes?

Thanks

Well I haven't worked again on them, if the new version of Core is released, I'll propably continue working on it. Another problem is to find good pictures of ships, because the Core team changed the model names to quite rare ones I think (an old monitor ship for example).

@ mikwarleo
At first: I use Photoshop, but you can use every programm, even MS Paint.

The way how to convert icons heaviely depends on if you are working on land or naval/air force icons. With the latter ones you will unavoidable encouter serious problems, because Core has units and unit names that just don't exist in vanilla HOI2 and so don't exist in any vanilla icon pack, one example are the torpedoe boats.

But I'll begin with the easier topic: land units.
If I remember right I copied all Core icons into seperate folders (one time for the German models, one time for the Soviet models, etc). If I remember correctly there are only German icons in Ostheim's pack, so one copy is enough.
Then you should have one folder (let's say you called it GER) with all files in it (model_0_0.bmp, model_0_1.bmp,...,model_11_9.bmp). Rename all files by writing "ger_" infront of the names (eg.: ger_model_0_0.bmp).
Then analyse the icons: model_x_0 to model_x_4 are the ones with 6bn, model_x_5 to , model_x_9 are the ones with 9bn. There some irregularities for tanks and mot.inf., but you'll figure them out yourself.
Then you can start converting the models you want. You'll propably begin with Infantry. Model_0_0.bmp is in Core an Infantry Div. from 1930 with 6 battallions. Germany has 9 battallions, so you can delete model_0_0 to model_0_4, aswell as every other model from 0-4 and the model_4_x series (actually you can that before renaming the models). Some SS-Divisions will be 6bn, so be carefull (early LSSAH eg).
The rest should be clear: Select the model you want to have in the end and copy it over it's corresponding Core icon in your programm, overwrite the year number and replace it with one you like and don't forget the 6bn/9bn icon, which you can get from other Core icons. Maybe you will have to use some icons twice, e.g. when the 1918 vanilla-model shows a man with spike helmet and MG08/15 you shouldn't use for 1930.

Ask, if something is still unclear :)

You might want to check out the models in the mod-CORE2\gfx\interface\models folder. That should have all the models/model numbers we support for Germany. I'm not too sure whether we have 6-btn units in the German lineup, and if we do, whether that's intentional (as those won't upgrade). Something to check with Dec I reckon. Oh, and the MTB's will be scratched from the roster in 0.40 (and CVLs and CVEs will be introduced for one).

Why? They are "destroyers", so they don't occupy an own class.
I never used them anyway. ;)
The 0.40 release will support the extended DD timeline (the current setup is 1936-1948 rather than 1936-1953 for the naval side of things). And as such we're running out of models...

I like what you've done, only I'm into having my first crack at modding and was a little disappointed with inital CORE gfx. Can't complain if I'm not willing to do something about it myself. :)

I'll start with Ostheim's after getting his permission. I'm pretty good with photoshop so that shouldn't be a problem.

I'm not ready (perhaps not motivated at all) to invent new unit icons, only to adapt those already out there.

is the only problem that they don't exist - i.e. there's no special differences in how the graphics themselves are put together?

LSSAH?

This is my main question, did you just draw that in yourself or copy from other Core icons? When editing the pics do you use the actual game pics or is there a higher quality version out there that you reduce? I assume there's a thread out there with instructions? Or not? If you know of it please post link.

Thanks... great info. PMing Ostheim now...

Well, we're working hard on the graphics as of now (and have been for over a year, after two years of neglect). But it is rather a lot of work.
