Anyone noticed swarms of allied bombers over Germany as soon as the Poles refuse to bend? The thing that bugs me the most in HOI2 is allied overobsession withs air raids as soon as the WW2 starts, which is completely unrealistic. Allies weren't prepared for massive air bombing of Germany in 1939/1940 and they knew that - that's why (along with some other reasons) they didn't send all their planes on suicidal air missions above German skies. But the game doesn't simulate that and so allies suffer great losses in the beginning of the war. In short, no sitzkrieg there...Maybe there should be an event instructing allied AI not to bomb Germany for a year or at least until certain techs (air doctrines) are developed...

I am not sure... but I certainly dont like the fact that they attack with everything they got like they do now...

Historically there wasnt much fighting at all in the air until 1940... then the britts had to fight for their life in their own airspace... It wasnt until after 1942 the real trouble started for germany...

Well... its not a historic simulation but as it is now you are forced to focus a lot on airforce to keep your forces out of harms way right from the start of the game... anything else is suicide...

Not really accurate. Allieds decided to not do so, simply because they were affraid Germany could do the same over French cities. So it was a political decision, and proponent of mass destruction bombing were close to see their views used. So how the allied AI act is not so impprobable (I mean it could have been if other political considerations did not interfere). But Allieds forces (namely Frenc and english, because Poles were ridiculous) were prepared for a mass bombing compaign. They simply get no orders.

Well... massbombing would be an overstatement but yes... they did have a few

I've said there were other reasons too. If I'm not wrong there was a heated debate in british parliament (HOC) as soon as the war started and part of the representatives actually demanded that RAF should bomb Germany, especially forests in Ruhr area. But the ministry of defence refused such demands saying, that they can't do that since those forests are private property (!?). Still the fact is that the Luftwafe was way stronger in 1940-1941 while strat. arms of RAF was somehow weaker than in 1942 so losses would be higher if allies decided to bomb Germany in 1940.

In any case, the way things are now, with allies bombing Germany as early as in 1939 is not realistic. And it weakens allied air force considerably.

Before the British actually switched to the bombing of Industry (and later, to 'area' bombing), it was suggested that they fire-bomb the Black Forest, to set fire to the trees...

Hugh Dalton : “The smoke and smell of German forests would teach the Germans, who were very sentimental about their own trees, that war was not always pleasant and profitable, and could not be fought entirely in other people’s countries.”

When the issue of an attack on the Black Forest was raised with Kingsley Wood, he replied:

“Oh you can not do that, that’s private property. You’ll be asking me to bomb the Ruhr next.”

The bombing of Koln was planned, but never carried out because french high command was affraid germany will the same to Strassbourg. that is only an exemple, all cities of the Rheinlandplatz were under the potential threat of the allied bombers. But it was never made because the fear germany will do the same but in a biggest and harshest scale.

Maybe it's better to tell it like that
