* Sorry to interrupt here, big noob regarding the winter war and the eastern front for the most part + haven't played other HOI games* (I am not being ironic or sarcastic I really don't know)

1) But wouldn't it be silly to invest in fighters since they wouldn't be useful since the enemy bombers wouldn't fly to bomb you in severe weather conditions aka most of the year?
2) Wouldn't that also apply to tanks?

So shouldn't you just develop infantry-light armor divisions?

Anti aircrafts guns may be a better alternative then fighters and cavalry may do what tanks can do for less cost.

A multilayer co-op session as Finland and a Sweden that joins the war on Finland's side could be quite interesting I think.

In that case Finland could invest its whole industry into fort construction (Finland don't have any strategic resources but forts don't need any strategic resources.) Meanwhile Sweden could mobilize a massive military industry (Sweden have an unlimited supply of steel) and produce enough weapons for a defensive purpose.

I do not know if direction of attack is so hard to code. We already had neighbouring provinces and flanking bonuses. It's just a matter of some hard coding for a small benefit.

Largest problem with theorycrafting is, we have little idea on how would SU AI behave faced with Finland.

In HOI3, IF you managed to get enough divisions out, due to bonuses to you get for winter war, Soviet AI would simply refuse to attack you, so it was possible to wait 2 years, till you either get into Axis, or Germany would declare war on you (happened to me on both my Finland games) at which point, you can get LL from UK and US, and some expeditionary troops, with which your capabilities wastly grow, as 80-120 IC LL allows for a tonne of different stuff to be made.

But, IF SU AI would recognise that Finish resources are far too small for prolonged engagement, SU could just rush in, ignore unfavourable loses ratio, and stomp Finland anyway. It is highly doubtfull player will be able to do anything in that case.

Open notepad -> add some more population and better infrastucture on all my regions -> add about 500 starting units -> start the game ^^

But seriously - I always find Finland really interesting to play - It is a race with a time to set things right.
1 - increase IC potential (I know HOI4 system so IC means all factories and shipyards)
2 - preparing defences - southeast region
3 - preparing attack plans (Leningrad and Murmans fronts) - try to make those units mobile
4 - Try to keep these lands and survive

If I will lose there will be always round 2
