Well that's the story wrapped up for now. I'll do one further "revision" update to look back at the themes and characteristics of Papal Italy but the above will be the last proper lecture. Usually in these circumstances I'd go into more detail on the future of both the Church and Italy in the decades to come, but hopefully I'll get a chance to do that in a proper sequel.

Dr. Gonzo: Bugger. I forgot to include the public hangings and executions. Now what am I going to do with all these Cardinals?
Admittedly one reason why I'm putting all these details off to some distant sequel is that I have
absolutely no idea as to what the future will entail for this revolutionary Italy. I'll have to sit down and sketch the whole alt-history out some day.
J. Passepartout: Of course conversely losing its temporal power did calm the Church down somewhat. Well after a century or so...
Quirinus308: What can I say? Thank you very much for the praise. I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't pleased by the reaction to this AAR. Comments such as yours are massively reassuring to me.
RGB: I was wondering if anyone would pick up on the fate of the Mille. Funnily enough, I had the footnote already written and was on my final draft when I stumbled across the fitting reference. Its a small tribute to Garibaldi, who has been notable by his absence in this history.
Specialist290: Thanks, its always good to have readers return!
Director: The problem with planning a sequel is that now I have all these ideas bouncing around my head and interfering with the business of finishing the current AAR
CCA: Unfortunately I haven't been following your AAR (time constraints mean that I barely have time to write this one) so I can't give any specific advice. Generally though I'd say that the most important factors in this AAR have been the tone/style, planning, and work.
There's not much I can say about the tone of this AAR (I aim for a slightly formal and academic prose) as it just comes natural to me. That's probably the result of reading little but history for the past two years. Planning is easier - I made sure to sit down at least twice during this AAR in order to map out future updates and decide where the story was going. As for work, each update of this AAR (aside from the last two) goes through at least three drafts in order to make sure that the final thousand words are as polished as possible. It takes a lot of effort but I feel that the result is worth it.
I hope this helps somewhat. Don't hesitate to pm me with any specific questions.
stnylan: Is there some Papal connection with Salamanca? Apparently Toledo is the foremost diocese in Spain and the Alcázar has some name value. For the moment that will do me.
Varyar: Its great to have you back at the end. I know how difficult it is to catch up with an AAR after falling behind so this is much appreciated.
