Can we get a feature to "name it" ourselves? Right now it seems that we randomly get the names assigned and that feels, really bad. Prior we had a choice i.e Star Empire, Military Junta. Now we just seem to get one based on civics similar to the AI.

I'd much rather, I could name my government form myself. Since it effectively is meaningless anyway.

I agree. I did create a mod in order to create a fusion between a Holy Tribunal and Military Junta, but still it would be nice to be able to name our governments ourselves.

It's based on ethics, but also on what type of government buffs you choose. So if you want a specific name, you need to pick a certain group of buffs.
That is kinda what I am talking about though, there is no real reason for this. The government name itself has no influence whatsoever. It makes sense for the AI as it relates to their personality type and such. A player should be able to name it whatever they want since it's purely cosmetic now.

But I want my government to be called "Kim Jong Un's government"
"Democratic Assembly for Peace and Harmony".

It isn't purely cosmetic. It's an indicator of what type of government they have. I mean, why are they called corvettes, destroyers, cruisers, and battleships? Why can't I call them shooty 1, shooty 2, shooty 3, shooty 4?

In multiplayer maybe, if it's single, who cares?
Why name anything at all in singleplayer? By definitions in this thread, the names of energy, minerals, traditions, weapon types, all cosmetic. Why not allow everyone to name everything? I'd just like a better reason to be able to custom name something.

More importantly, can we actually receive some details on the tooltip about the government? Even the wiki doesn't mention, for instance, an Illuminated Autocracy can build elite guards.

Actually gained something. We get to pick what bonuses we want and qualify for instead of having a select number of pre sets. The raw number of potential combos is far greater than the number of old governments.

I disagree. I do not mind the new system, but some stuff was lost in translation - like there's no civic occupying the space of Military Republic, which was focused around buffing military stations.

Except that isn't needed in multiplayer at all. Other players can see your ethoses and civics. Comparing it to ship classes, whom one can name freely (thus undermining your argumentation) is a pretty bad strawman.

The current system of naming does have a purpose. The Spiritualist faction ties some happiness to being in a theocratic government.
Most of those are tied to government embraced ethoses not the actual government. They do not check for <name of government> and then go by it. Anything that has a spiritualist ethos would do, doesn't matter whether it is called "Priesthood of X", "Divine Council" or "Non Atheists Incorp".

The flavour text is for Ai, as it eludes to their general behaviour and attitude. Which relates to their various scores and behaviour il.e slavery, robot liberator etc. The player is not affected by this in any kind of way. The game start text is down to ethics, not how your government is being called based on the Ai routine.
