I have the EU 2 cheat list, and am wondering how to use events (like "diplomatic insult") that I assume need a name of a country. Do I use a name or a numerical code? Is there any formatting?

[I assume this can be done with the scenario editor too, but that is a bit beyond me at this point.]

(My motive, btw, is that I am getting bored as France and want to attack Spain. But the stab and BB hits without a CB are prohibitive.)

Thanks.

Just edit savegame, giving yourself a temporary CB on them. Or legally, flood andalusia cot with merchants, Spain really loves to ban people from their CoTs.

If they have less trade-tech than 4, give it to them, that isn't cheating ;)

Or do a royal marriage with them, then claim their throne, expensive on the stab but better for BB.

Actually the diplomatic insult event picks a random country to give you the CB on. One good way to get a CB on Spain would be to get banned from their CoT(s); send 4+ merchants at once to one of their CoTs and they will usually ban you soon afterwards. Another would be to Guarantee the independence of some country that they like to attack or send them a Warning.

Event 3041?

What is event 3041?

And more to the point, I can't get any of the cheat codes to work anyway. I followed the instructions in the list:

F12
type: event xxxx <enter>
Ctrl-F12

But nothing happens no matter which event I pick.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Thanks.

It's an English event Captain Jenkins Ear. It gives you casus belli against Spain for two years.

And when you say "type: event" you don't actually type a word "type" in the console, do you?

You can also make an event happen for another nation by typing the nations tag after the event number:

event 123456 ENG

No, I have not typed the word "type." According to the cheat list, one is supposed to:

1. Hit F12 to open the cheat window. This works; it appears as a translucent overlay in the upper left.

2. Type "event xxxx" (where xxxx is the number, and not typing the quote marks), and hit Enter. This has no effect no matter which event I pick, and regardless of whether the game is paused or not. It doesn't work with named cheats like "columbus" either.

3. Hit Ctrl-F12 to close the window. Perhaps the event is not supposed to take place until I do this. Either way, the window closes but otherwise nothing happens.

With this detail, can anyone figure it out?

Btw, thanks for the tip on imposing events on other powers -- if I can get it working at all.

IIRC a couple of people have reported that they need to type an extra space in front of anything they type in the console to get it to work. That could be your problem if even columbus doesn't work. And, as Lord Tarleton mentions, cheat codes don't work in multiplayer.

The event # in the cheatlist are old and won't work - look in db/events/randomevents.txt to see the new numbers.

But cheatwords not working either - wierd.. have you tried ney or something equally easily spelt? ;)

Event 3041 is 'Captain Jenkin's Ear' (for ENG) that gives you a 24 month CB on Spain. (And you can trigger other nations events for you just fine, once you get it working. And subsequent events triggered directly by this event will go off, but events whose trigger conditions require your 'cheat-triggered' event to have fired won't, until the game fires that event the normal way)
