Instead of stat buffs, can we have the missiles travel at least 2-3 times faster to their targets? Would it be ridiculous to have the missiles travel at sublight speed in battles? If we have them travel at around the similar speed of the plasma projectiles, and little slower than kinetics, it would be a bit more useful. Then we really wouldn't have to worry about re-doing the battle mechanics just for missile's sake, or implement some kind of smart targetting. It would still retain its current stats and range, except for the fact that they can be shot down.

Both are the fix.

Increased missile travel speed (each tier moves faster? (PHYSIC!!!, not engineering again) research tech which increase missile speed?
And re-targeting of in-space missiles which targets are destroyed.

As missile-spezies you would still have the problem of first-strike disadvantage (your weapons need time to reach while enemy can insta-hit you). But once your missiles are in the space and reach their targets ... you get the BOOM ;).

Like in real life. A gun bullet hits it's target very fast but just makes a tiny hole. A missile needs time ... but once it hits there is nothing left but dust!

PS: AND ... you can build SIFI space ships and super duper techs ... but you forgot how missiles guidens systems work in 1990 ???? WTF ???

It may be physics to have them move faster.... but building the engine to drive them faster is an engineering challenge.

IIRC there were problems with just making the missiles faster, which render it an unsuitable solution.

Re-targetting already fired projectiles also has its own problems - other games have tried this and ended up weird, weird bugs with missiles never actually targetting and hitting ships because they keep shifting priority and running from just destroyed ship to just destroyed ship - simultaneously clogging the battle up with fired but unexpended missiles.
