Hi there!

Brand new member here with a very silly question regarding domes. From what I've seen on the let's plays every dome has got an effective radius where, if I'm understanding them properly, it can gather resources from and send workers to work on mines and others.

My question is: If I place 3 or 4 domes all within each of their radius would I be able to specialize them? Like 1 dome for food, 1 for entertainment, 1 for housing...

Thanks, looking forward to play this game!

Currently you can specialize domes even if they are not positioned next to each other, but people living in one dome cannot visit services and workplaces in another (they can migrate to live elsewhere, though). I am saying "currently" because it is a common request and we are definitely taking another look at this right after release.

As a follow up to that question, if you don't mind, does this mean that 1 food / housing dome (for workplaces) can share that food with several other domes?

Yes, since food is a resouce, that can be distributed by the drones. I think it is a good idea to specialize one (or more later) domes to food-production, so other domes can concentrate on production or extraction of the other resources.

So it does make sense to build domes close to each other and put polymer factories, fungal farms , drone prefab maker or fusion reactors in the middle then ?
I think that should be possible, since the buildings are not dedicated to a specific dome and therefore it should be possible to operate them from diferent domes as long as they are in range.

If that's the case it sounds awesome. Since farms are pretty OP i can dream of a medium dome with a spire for colonists to live in, some entertainment and only food production.

It probably makes more sense to use the water reclamation spire and appartments instead as farms use a fair amount of water. Unless you use the oval dome. But even then I'd say 2 water reclamation spires make more sense

Yeah, this really needs to change...What was [whomever] thinking when they decided to basically lock people into a single dome?

The 'each dome being isolated' sounds a lot better than everything being accessible. How would you track/mitigate comfort if the whole colony was in one big pool rather than several distinct systems?

If there are problems they are confined to a single dome not spread everywhere.

I also think it'd be better to have food spread out like one farm per dome rather than a massive food dome. It'd cost more in water as you couldn't consolidate and use the water reclaimer spire but it'd greatly relax your delivery needs which could overtax your shuttles.

It depends how you set up your domes. If you overlap their zones, have food storage in the center of the overlap with a drone hub, there should be zero problem feeding two or three domes (total, including the farm dome) from a specialized farm dome.

Done right, you could have another pair of domes overlapping on the far side of the farm dome sharing another 'food hub'

Very good idea. I'm so eager to play this game, it looks like "Planetbase" done right!
