Countless wars will most likely be fought, can Denmark hold on to the large and increasingly distant realm of Norway ? We will see.

2 : Sweden

Sweden after being bludgeoned in the early 18th century stands as a shadow of its former self. Can it reclaim its honour and strength in this time of revolution and war ?


3 : One of the viceroyalties of Spain as an IC nation/one order state. Something like that.

1. Piedmont/Savoy: Can it unite Italy faster then it did OTL? Probably not but who knows.
2. Afghanistan: Because I have to! The last time in the Long 19th Century, Afghanistan/Durrani actually put in a pretty good showing and we nearly drove the UK out of India. It'd be fun to try again.
3. Russia: Because they are a reasonably challenging 'big' nation to try out and keep stable.

1.) Russian Empire — It's a pretty challenging nation, but it'll also be a pretty fun game as well and I'd love to play as Catherine the Great during this time period.
2.) Irish Republicans in Great Britain — Who doesn't love Wolfe Tone and Napper Tandy? I certainly love 'em.
3.) Kingdom of Portugal — Maintaining Portuguese supremacy in South America and in southern Africa could be a really interesting game.

I'd also be willing to play as any other nation if my top three choices are given to other players, BTW

1. Kingdom of Naples - Great Potential; strong enough to influence European Wars as well as take part in colonization.
2. Austrian Empire - I live on their former territory, and I'm excited by the challenging ethnic and imperial turmoil.
3. Sardinia Piedmont - Northern Italy was at the center of the early Napoleonic Wars - possible republicanism, nationalism, and colonialism.

Joseph II was a tyrant who oppressed Belgium/fascinating ruler, I'd be interested in Austria if that's possible. Tipu Sultan and Agha Muhammad Shah are fairly interesting too but I assume you want an Eurocentric game. Regardless, it's nice to see you'll run this again, I'll be sure to follow it.

It was pointed out to me that it may be a good idea to assign some of the major countries early, so that people who do not get them have a chance to re-submit a list of minor countries they would want. So here are the major countries:

Two more things: First, the Papal States will not be played by a player. I have yet to see a single game where that has worked out well. Second, after some thinking I have decided that the USA will not be played by a player either, at least at first. I will "curate" it and respond to what is going on in Europe, but I think I would rather have an extra player in Europe or India than one in the USA.

If you want to re-submit your lists, go ahead. Otherwise I'll use whatever people have submitted until now and assign the other 5 countries and 3 IC-only countries on the Weekend.

I have access to sources none of the non-dutchmen can hope to access and as such can IC more. Also this era being one of revolt and revolution, the Batavian Republic will be interesting.

1. Qing Dynasty of China - During this period, China will face rapid growth in population and industrialization, while corruption plagues it's administration. Several revolts will have to be overcome for the Emperor to retain power, and any weaknesses will be seized upon by European powers.
2. Tokugawa Shogunate - Taking power in the middle of the isolation period, the choices one would have would be immense. The effects of Japan leaving its isolation early, on both Asian and European countries, could completely change the world as we know it.
3. Kingdom of Portugal - With the Napoleonic Wars looming ahead, a game as Portugal will be tense and interesting. When the war does break out, Portugal will lose Brazil to a growing independence movement. Trying to retain the last remnants of Portuguese grandeur is what makes this country so interesting
