Like Korona, I wouldn't mind ic'ing as the Spanish CNT or FAI (they haven't joined up yet) and then taking the helm of them at the onset of the civil war.

I know I shouldn't be doing the GM's work (sorry!), but as a KR fan: in the ingame 1936 start, the Pope is the head of state of the Italian Federation, iirc. So I'm not positive how, and frankly if, that would work. I apologize once again to Storm for doing his job, and possibly incorrectly at that.
