You could browse the NPC list and try to get another lord's unemployed (or employed if you're that persuasive but I've only been able to convince people to do it once outside of marriages) talented courtiers to like you enough to ditch their court for yours.

People come to your court via marriages or your promise to push their claims for them. For inviting people based on their claims (you could ignore the claims they have, since you want them for their stats), you do have to make sure that they are of your religion, and they like you somewhat.

Considering that you know how to use the invite option in the character screen, it's usually enough to bribe another lord's court member with some gifts if you're rich enough. Otherwise you can try to marry them into your court (Marry martelinary if it's a male you're trying to get into your court). Shouldn't be to much of an issue if the character doesn't hate you from the start + you have a fair share of money.

The invite to court diplomacy option should be in the courtier's diplomacy screen, are you trying to invite a landed person?

You'll probably be more successful in inviting via marriage. I was helping my wife with her Dublin game where fabricating titles is key in the very early game. Her 13 chancellor died, and the next was only an 8. However, using a matrilinal marriage from one of her daughters, she was able to convince a 22 skill chancellor to join the court even though he was already a different lord's chancellor. Didn't have to lose a single gold piece to bribing with money, (since funds are super tight in early game Ireland)...and you get a happy and dynasty baby making daughter to boot.

Ok hate to be the noob but how do I do this? DO I just go to the daughters screen and click on the marriage icon? And what do I do if I have no daughters to marry?

What is a landed person? What I do is go to people filter to the skill I need for instance a seward needs learning ( i think) so I see someone that has better skill then I have in my court but I for some reason dont see the invite to court option...
Ok I now see the inv to court option :) but the send is greyed out. How can I get people with greyed out send icon to agree to come without marriage?

Make some babies :D

In all seriousness, you can do this with any female courtier in your court who isn't married, though you tend to get a lot more takers if you are using daughters.

Click the woman in question and open diplomacy with them. Select "arrange Marriage"
They will be the first half auto-selected, click the empty portrait to select their husband. This will open up a list of available bachelors. At the top, there will be a "Matralineal" check box. Check it, the list will be pruned of guys who don't want matrilineal. The remaining guys are ones willing to marry. Sort by the stat you want and select him, then click send. They should accept and a week later "ZYZ has arrived in your court" Once you get that message, you can hire him to a council position.

Ahhh ok I understand it now. Now another question I send my chancellor to the next province over to make some claims and it is taking forever, and I mean forever so I don't know what to do. Also I have a notification of a dejur something or other in the province below me. WHat is that exactly and how do I make a bigger army because I lost when I declared war lol? :)

It is not uncommon for the production of claims to take long, sometimes several years, especially if the chancelor isn't an absolute diplomacy genius. You are given a certain percentage of probability when sending court members on missions. This shows you how likely it is to succeed at whatever that person does within a year. So 33% translates to an average expected duration of three years.

De jure claims are claims you get based on your titles. Most duchies/kingdoms/empires have a de jure territory that can be claimed by the current holder of this title. You can find out what is whithin the de jure territory of a certain title by clicking on it (which will bring you to the title's screen) and then checking the "de jure" box in the top right corner of the window.

To get more troops, you can build/upgrade the military infrastructure of your holdings (like stables and barracks). This will likely be too expensive in the early game, though, especially compared to how many units it will give you. You can send your marshal to train troops in a county you own, it will increase the troops available there to a certain percentage. Also, if you save up, it will allow you to hire mercenaries. Keep in mind, though, that you need to pay them up-front AND pay their "salaries" every month ...

This is exactly why you want to marry in for better council members. If you are fabricating claims, you'll want at least a 13 to have it fire in a reasonable amount of time... higher is always better.

In the super-early game, the cheap mercenary companies are the way to go for early wars, just make sure you have enough to pay their upkeep or they'll turn on you.

Got it!!! Thanks. Now, say I have 228/228 army in my county that I can raise. Now I know I can raise a max of 228 levy from my personal army and whatever from my Vassals, But, is there a way to raise the max level ? Like the max I have is 228 can I make that max higher without building any military buildings? What exactly does having the militia guy in your city do? Does he just replace soilders that were killed to get the total back up to 228 or does he raise the max number?
