I'm happy that paradox continues to support this game and even makes some new features available to people who don't buy the newest DLC. But the recent changes in 1.14 just make the game unplayable when you don't have the cossacks-DLC.
I just started a new 1.14 game for the first time and this is what happened:
I'm in a war with an ally - the wargoal is conquering a province but my ally managed to control the wargoal-province.
And now, they don't want to give me the province.
- it's the war goal
- I'm the war leader - they're just a junior partner
- I have a claim on it - they don't
- it's a bordering province for me - for them it isn't
but still they won't give me control of the province. Why?!
in 1.13 the AI used to just give you ever province, if they didn't have a claim on it.
Now, they seem to only give you the provinces, if you have set them as "interest". But I can't set provinces as interests if I don't have the cossacks DLC.
This is such a ridiculous scenario, they're just hogging the province, simply because I can't tell them that I want it (which should be clear to begin with, since that's the province I declared the war for!
This is so absurd, Paradox has made the new AI-behavior available for free in the newest patch, but made the menu-option to interact with them, DLC-only.
The game is now virtually unplayable, because this happens in every war now.
Basically, I have to wait like 10 years, until my ally gets bored and signs a separate peace deal. Then I can start to siege the province again.
I can't be the only person who is bothered by this. Did everybody else just buy cossacks and got over it?
I do own every other DLC, except for cossacks, so I feel this is an unnecessarily dickish way of forcing people into buying the new dlc: by making the game unplyable if you don't buy it
(I know I can go back to 1.13, but that's such a major hassle, especially because I'd have to start maintaining mods manually)
