This procedural mission is weird. Aquatic planet, but nary a body of water to be found on the map, and the pirate garrison is just allowing all the buildings to be destroyed without engaging his forces.

Daeron Katz (Bombadil is one of those "super fans" you are talking about. He was a early supporter, has been involved in BattleTech longer than a lot of people have been alive and is super enthusiastic about the game. He is still not particularly exciting to watch while playing HBS BattleTech. For one thing, turned based games are not very exciting or "edge of your seat" inducing unless you are the one playing. For another, imagine playing your game with 700 critics watching, commenting on and second guessing your every move. No one wants to look inept or incompetent. Heck, Phil (Sean Lang) got Dekker killed and he still hears about it every time he logs on. cohh_carnage did a scum save and redo on a mission early on. Sidestrafe has had to do a couple Withdraws. Look at the heckling they take as a result of a mistake or two. Is it any wonder that they are even more indecisive and cautious?

I am one of the BattleTech super fans that you speak of. I, personally, will only save at the end of a gaming session. NO scum saves. However, I do not want to lose MechWarriors or go bankrupt so I may be even more deliberate in my moves than those streamers. No one would want to watch me play, But I guarantee that I will be having an exciting time. That is the nature of a turn based strategy/sim game.

A super-fan and lore-master streamer. You know, the type that regales the viewer in the rich history of Battletech and how the game represents it and how they get excited when things are done right.

Its the first play through! To do anything other than test the mechanics in every-which-way is the wrong way of doing it. No reloading, no withdrawing, play it through to get the best idea on how to play.

Pants down and chase the bull! Quickest way to learn what works the best.

I have to say that's one of the most colorful phrases I've ever heard, and I've heard a lot in my years.

I've said it elsewhere, SS needs to stop overthinking and do something, or if he wants to check every possible approach vector, then bloody check EVERY vector. I saw him repeatedly run his mouse over the same area ignoring a LOT of possible movement points that would have probably gotten him a firing solution, and he never simply moved that mouse a teensy bit further to check. That's what I found infuriating. Hemm and haww about a choice, but hamstring those choices into the two worst ones you could make...maybe he's gotten better, but I still hear a lot of people complaining about his streams that he hasn't improved all that much.

SS is typical of a FPS player thrust into an actual tactical game. He wants to play smart but because he doesn't have a plan, there's no one obvious choice so he ends up wracked in indecision and constantly second guessing his own choices. Cohh on the other hand, is not afraid to stick to a plan and learn from the result.

I'm curious out of all the streamers out there, how on earth did SS get the privilege to stream the campaign? He has neither the sub count, knowledge, skill set nor entertainment value. In fact, if I'm on the edge about this new turn based IP I've never heard of before, watching him play would definitely convince me NOT to buy.

He's friends with Bombadil and Bombadil is one of the very few mods on his channel. Definitely feels like a "Have you met my friend, Sidestrafe?" situation.

He's doing pretty well now. His initial rants were just embarrassing for HBS, but now he's the most advanced streamer with the most exciting content. Everyone else is either off the rails (Burke), or pre-Argo (nearly everyone else), mostly stopped (Cohh) or slow drip feeds on YouTube (Odd, etc).

There's apparently another pool of streamers that'll be let loose on the 20th, but not sure why since we've all seen the tutorial stuff already.

Is that so? Probably because both streamed MWO and Bombadil thought "hey, maybe SS's twitch pin-point alpha skill will mesh nicely with an RNG tactical game". Facepalm.

I'll give his latest stream one more try.

I will him credit on one thing though - no other streamer has highlighted just how derpy the AI is atm.

I expect it is not for "us", it is for all the people out there who don't know about the game yet. Sort of a second wave of "new" content (new to those who don't know about it yet) to pop up in timelines on social media and stuff, generation more customers. Don't know if it is actually more effective than spreading as far as you can in the first place, but this might be the reasoning behind it.

You should have read the part of the planet descritption that mentioned volcanic islands.
The battle map is only a few square kilometers large. Naturally, human activities will be concentrated to land areas.

Didn’t have an opportunity to read the entire description.

That was honestly less of an issue than the bugged AI.
