This really opened my eyes to instability bonus weapons to knock down enemy mechs more easily. 3 Wounds to KO a fresh mech looks absurdly good. Even a 4 wound pilot in a heavy mech that can take a beating looks feasible. It was fun to watch him get the Thunderbolt 5SE... I think the good luck charm for doing this was keeping Dekker alive.
I still want to see what a Firestarter can do overheating pilots. Reserve, JJ in, Full flamers in the face two rounds in a row, and then use Ace Pilot to jump away before anyone gets to take a crack at you.

Spell it out to me like I'm 3yo, want get this method down for my own run(s).

Best / easiest way to get mech part salvage it to put arrow to its knee so it gets knocked down and then core it?
No I think it was pilot injuries - Knockdown, Left Torso and Right Torso led to the pilot being injured to death.

Edit: Or method is turning enemy pilot into meat paste?

Kill enemy pilots via knockdowns and side torso destruction. Lucky cockpit hit makes the job even easier.

Wow, don't like those hard points. Everything is right arm or left torso.

Weapon configuration and chat are blowing his mind.
That's why they make other variants and other mechs.
To each their own.

True. There definitely isn't any tension or drama, just kibitzing.

For all that several of these fights should have been tense, the AI made 'em cakewalks.

That's why they make other variants and other mechs.
Not in this case. The standard Thunderbolt chassis can field the same weapons and jumpjets, it just doesn't stack all the missiles and machine gun points into the torso with the lasers. It's just odd.

Not as vulnerable and ridiculous as a griffin, but there isn't any benefit to stacking all those weapon points in the left side, rather than keeping them spread out in different locations like the stock mech. The description of the variant doesn't even indicate this is happening. Just reducing the LRMs and removing the small systems.

So, where he is in the difficulty scale enemy pilots have about 3 or 4 hit points. He racked up 3 in a row and maybe a 4th from random head shots to kill the pilot and get max salvage due to how the salvage system works.

First you use PStrike to called shot on a leg, this shot needs to be high dmg, you don't care if you overkill in to the side torso, you actually want to pick a leg who's torso has ammo in it.
This knocks them down for 1 pilot hit.

Then, once it is fallen, you make normal called shots (saving morale) with the rest of your forces. Go for that torso you just cut the out from. With the leg gone, damage to the torso is more concentrated, if you get an ammo explosion it makes things easier.
This adds 1 injury. 2 Pilot hits total.

Once that side is gone, you make called shots to the other torso. This puts the 3rd injury on and that's game for Guts 3 or less. If they have 4 HP, you will need one more pilot hit to seal the deal.

As he can't advance the story, he's unlikely to see harder enemies that may have 4+ HP which makes this tactic much harder, but still easier than going for head destruction.

EDIT: The ON1 flight clarified torso ammo explosions only deal 1 pilot injury.

He really seems to hate JJs for some reason.

Could be MW/MWO-itis, JJs are a waste of space and heat in those games.

Well..my hopes are high for some AI tweaks until release, and later maybe mods.
But with an unforgiving AI those missions would be nearly impossible without cheesy tactics.

Edit:

Just chill dude, you're ranting every minute about AI and whatnot - the game is NOT YET released.
Stay tuned. ;)

The mission I saw was 6 mediums and 2 heavies against 4 mediums. I agree that an unforgiving AI would make it nearly impossible but I do hope that when the Grasshopper just turned around to show the player its backside, that that was just a bug and not intended AI behavior. Perhaps not upping the difficulty but at least removing some of those (shall we say nonsensical) moves.

As I responded in another thread, that depends entirely on what other systems are available in the "level 2" region that are higher difficulty. I would guess 4 to 5. Of course, Phil also met a lone TDR on a one skull mission, so it's possible the same thing could happen for an assault on a 2 skull mission. Any assult 'Mech is likely to be piloted by an elite pilot.
