I took the quote to mean an intentional, across the board degradation of the AI's aggressiveness - not multiple settings or anything like that. @Insainiac99 specifically refers to Tyler saying "tune back the aggressiveness," which backs that up. I'm also seeing the AI do way too much bracing too, so it's hard for me to believe that HBS isn't capable of coming to the conclusion that shooting more and bracing less would, in fact, make them more dangerous.

We've also heard this talk about this at least a little bit going back to Q&A's with "make it fun to play against" and that sort of thing.
I've played a lot of Backer Beta, once I get in-game on the 24th and manage to spec out four Medium Mechs, I am going to go hunt up some 4 to 5-Skull Missions just to prove/disprove what we are talking about here.

I hope the AI kicks my tail!

You may lose just because of ton and weapon power difference, not because AI is somehow better at 5 skulls.

It seems like we're actually talking about two different subjects. ;) I'm certainly not saying the AI is going to be better at 5 skulls or that there are multiple AI settings.

If HBS did intentionally sabotage the AI's aggressiveness to make the game more forgiving, the only real 100% proof would be them coming out and saying so.

With mods... anything is possible ;)

I read that some of the beta backers tweaked the AI to be more agressive/competent. Hopefully they will make some tweaks after release if needed and present their work to the community.

I do plan on continuing my AI mods going forward. However, I don't think I'll have something out day 1, or even week 1. I plan on going through a lot of stock SP and digging through the files to learn the how and why it works now before mucking about with the variables.

It's just the modern equivalent of releasing a buggy game and waiting for patches. The only difference is from whom the patches are coming.

I think one thing to keep in mind is that we can watch SideStrafe (or whoever) play and dissect how they're messing up pretty easily, but especially people who are posting and watching streams are either a) long-time BT fans who have an in-depth knowledge of underlying systems, or b) long-time TB Tactics gamers who probably was raised on XCOM and JA2, and are just quicker studies based on that foundational experience. The AI is clearly not going to be tuned to those two groups of players (unfortunately IMO but I get it).

I mean - look at the trouble these guys are getting into. This game is striving to sell a lot of copies, and having a more unforgiving difficulty curve would likely make it hard to attract non-grognard-y players. I think difficulty settings could have solved this, but I would guess that it is also probably the type of thing that makes coding more difficult, and that's troublesome under a deadline.

Part of the reason I invested so much time into the Backer Beta was to get a feel for the AI.

Yes the AI will be more advanced at Launch, but not unrecognizably so IMO.

Insight into 4-5 Skull Missions, will be insight into not just the AI but how HBS arranges AI Force Composition and Disposition in those high-tier missions.

Between hundreds of Backer Beta matches, plus my being retired Military with experience in Wargame Design, I'll have a fair shot at determining whether it was the pieces or the AI-moving-the-pieces that bested me in 4-5 Skull Missions.

I am quite anticipating trying to suss all this out, : )

I think that depends on the game. Some games like the Elder Scrolls or ARMA are kind of expected to be sandboxes to kit out with mods as you wish. Given how open the game is to modding, we are finally getting some of that open sandbox for BT. This is the first game, so we don't have those expectations yet and we will see how the game's community and development evolve for the coming installations.

i tried watching this fella live... i just cant do it. so hard to watch him sit there and do nothing for 10 minutes every 30 minutes or so... i watch his streams the next day and fast forward about half the stream. not very entertaining. engages with the trolls too much in chat. and takes for ever to do the thing he knows he going to do and set out to do from the onset. always way over thinking everything. and after playing the game for 20+ hours sill does not understand some of the most basic combat mechanics within the game. and certainly has no concept of what strategy is.

wish Cohh would stream this game more! way more entertaining to watch.

Jesus. Watching this guy play is torture!! Why do every person with adv. copy play like an idiot? "Noooo, I don't want to do any research before I play"

In a way videogame design has failed if you need hit wikias, streams, Q&As and rulebooks just to learn basic and core principles. For deeper understanding and advanced play I can see those being helpful resource, but game should teach you its core. Battletech really doesn't and it shows in these streams.

Also I would say NGNGtv guys know their shit, they just have to adapt that knowledge into this games altered ruleset.

Why is this guy so special? ...
I understand your frustrations, but we did have the backer beta, June until December 2017. Nothing in the backer said we get the game three weeks before launch, but a few days before the unwashed masses would be a nice "hey, thanks for supporting the game since December 2015, here is the finished product for being a helpful and contributing member of the community." I am hoping for that, but I can't expect something that wasn't promised .

yeah, i have no idea why they let this fella stream this game. but he's the one playing it the most. so...

just watched the part of his stream where he chats with his viewers and fails to understand why sensor locking someone with one evasion pip is pointless when you can just shoot him....

not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

and yes, i think all the kickstarter backers shoulda got this early access if only for a week or atleast get access earlier then everyone else.

Wait, so he can fire his mechs and then retreat instead of retreating and then firing?
Well, for him, perhaps.

There is a lot to be said, however, for using it to fire and then move out of enemy fire arcs rather than moving into enemy fire arcs to fire.

I plan on using it with my striker JJ mediums. It is a super powerful ability if you can manage heat well. Master tactician is also one that I plan on using often too. Medium mechs having the ability to move in phase 5 w/vigiliance? Hell yeah!!

It's just the modern equivalent of releasing a buggy game and waiting for patches. The only difference is from whom the patches are coming.

The difference is this isn't a bug. This is a handful of hardcores not thinking the game is difficult enough for them.

So once pilot has 3 skills you can't "re-educate" them and swap skills around?

Looking at stream now it looks like once 3 are lock game removes rest of possible skills from skill branches.
