Has anyone else encountered this problem.

I sided with Cromwell during the English Civil War because he was an awesome ruler. Unfortunately this also changed my government to Republic. This means no royal marriages, and no royal marriages means I can only vassalize through force. This is a serious drawback I had not considered. Is there anyway around this problem?

Thanks for the help.

Noble Republic. Or reelect yourself back to a monarchy, but just make sure to pick up the Plutocracy idea group before you do.

Noble Republic lets me take royal marriages. Good to know. How exactly does one reelect themselves to become Monarch again?

Also, how good is the average ruler. I am currently a despotic monarch, which retains the ruler for life. So I am reluctant to adopt a Republic with electrons because Cromwell is a pretty good ruler.

Pick a republic with a short election cycle, 4 years preferably. Reelect until your republic tradition drops so low you become a monarchy. You gain 1 republican tradition each year, every reelection subtracts 10 republican tradition.

Also, how good is the average ruler. I am currently a despotic monarch, which retains the ruler for life. So I am reluctant to adopt a Republic with electrons because Cromwell is a pretty good ruler.

Republic rulers start with 4-1-1, the 4 stat can be either mil, dip, or admin, and you get to choose. Every time you reelect you get +1 to all stats. So yeah, reelecting yourself nonstop will not only turn you into a monarchy, but give you a 6-6-6 godking ruler as well.

Just make sure you pick up Plutocracy idea group before you revert to monarchy, its rediculously good.

Note that a noble republic allows you to enter royal marriages, but you still cannot diplovassalize. Maybe there are some event-based ways to return to monarchy, but I haven't had such a thing in my games. The only reliable way is to reduce your republican tradition to 0, but note that it will make your stability really, really expensive.

If you are a despotich monarch you are already a monarchy again and can't switch to republic without a revolution. Also, you can diplovassalize again. This probably happened without you realizing it, and it's what happens when you reelect your leader in a republic with few republican tradition. From now on you can change to every other type of monarchy provided you have the necessary tech.

There's also a bug currently where the 6-6-6 god-president will be replaced by a different 6-6-6- godking upon becoming a monarchy again. The monarch will be like 20-30 years younger, usually, so it's a pretty absurd way to get tons of monarch points.

You can indeed diplovassalize with NR, you can't get PU:s though.
