So, after creating the kingdom of bohemia which stretches from Hungary to Denmark in a blaze of glory and politics, also controlling all of ireland (they one by one all asked to be my vassal, why the heck did they do that??) my great king is almost 80 and his stats are horrible. he's old and sick and just won't die! The realm is doing badly because his important stats are 0! My question is what can I do? Can I give my titles to someone else and then I'd take over as them? Is there any way my king can step down since he's past it? If I use the DIE cheat on my self will it trigger in the inheritance process or ruin my game?

If you kill your king, it works just like any other death. The normal inheritance process takes place.

One thing that might help you a lot without needing to either change dynasties or kill yourself would be to distribute some of those titles (particularly kingships) to distant relatives, or second/third/fourth sons/grandsons (far down the line of inheritance, in other words). That would reduce your number of vassals and help you maintain your kingdom. All you'd need to do would be to pick the areas you want to retain (say, Bohemia, Hungary, and Poland), then give away all the titles you hold outside those lands. (Note that since Bohemia is your primary title, you can't give it away)

1. The random pledging was fixed in the latest beta patch, so you need to get that one (here: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=331766 ... at the bottom of the thread)

2. Why kill him?? ... live with him. Your dynasty can't be blessed with competent rulers all the time :) ... that is part of the fun of the game, going through the good and bad periods.

If you are a big and rich country, you could spend cash on vassals with low loyalty ... keep them happy until he passes away. Also change ruling law to Feudal contract will give your +1.0 loyalty per month. Also set scutage to0. That will give you another +1.0 loyalty to your vassals.

It can be fun to try and keep the realm together. And some of the vassals leave, youcan always get them back later. You have plenty of time.

I have a king who is kinslayer and has realm duress. Sucky times ten. And what makes it worse, the f*cker is only 25 yet. :eek:o 40 more years of struggle if he lives for a long time.

Vassals are not too bad of a problem. However getting loyal courtiers is. Haven't had a loyal marshal in ages. Had to sack disloyal spymasters with 22 INT score and replace them by loyal 4-INT ones because there just wasn't anyone else except for the 55 year old grandma that serves me as steward, and I can't very well sack her because I need the money.

Sometimes you get shite kings, sometimes you get good ones. Make the most of it! :p

Oh if you REALLY want to get rid of him, make someone really disloyal your spymaster. Like, your wife who has zero loyalty and is also your rival. Or, your deceitful cruel bastard son.

Hahahaha! :D
Just imagine how that would be in real life. :D

"Well illigimate son of mine. Stop torturing those peasants, hmm... the masks they wear look awefully familiar, and stop sulking that you'll never be king. I got a job for you now. You'll be my new spymaster! Hey? What are you doing with that dagger, Brutus? You might hurt someone with that!"

:D

"Tu quoque, Brutus??"

(two of my five kings of the Rus so far were killed by either their wives, or their bastard sons. In fact the current one has the kinslayer trait because he killed the bastard brother in retaliation.)

Disloyal spymasters make for short lives. :eek:o

Things get really funny when you have noone left in the court to replace a spymaster like that. I've been through this...

But then - this situation is unlikely to last long. :D

I once had a king with the strangest luck. Always in wars (mainly crusades), never wounded. Then someday the day to his bedroom chamber opened, he remained unharmed. I had not even noticed my spymaster had become unloyal.:)

But as long as you manage to keep your king titles to your dynasty everything's allright. An 80 year old will hopefully not double his age, will he?;)

That's how I lost a pretty good king, the grandfather of the current guy. "The door to your bedroom chamber suddenly opens..." and BAM! dead. And I am fairly sure it must have been his wife. Somehow. Couldn't prove it.

The father of the current kinslayer+realm duress king got the event "Is that a dagger in my back?" which only has a 33% of survival. Of course he died too.  I could see that it was his bastard son (whom he had made a prince!!!!) because he got the kinslayer trait following this dynastic changeover.

The current king got the kinslayer trait after taking revenge for his father... first he stripped the rebelling bastard brother of all his titles, then once he had fled to some far away court he had him murdered. Sweet revenge. :D Except for being branded as a kinslayer of course.

It has been... difficult... since then. First the queen mum rebelled, whom I had given land and titles. I let her go because all her stuff will fall back to me anyhow. Then the whole court, except for some loyal guys, packed up and left. And now I am postponing my plans of grand conquest again and again. Because either my armies desert or the vassals rebel.
I only have those two or three loyal courtiers to lead armies, the rest will cause the dreaded "Disaster - there is treason in the air" event within a month of being given an army. I tried to sail an army to Tunis once, 16000 men, and forgot to check the loyalty of the courtiers. Of course they rebelled once they got through the Bosporus. And I don't want to send my king out to battle until his sons are old enough to rule should he die.

Sucky sucky, let me tell you! Otherwise the realm is in damn good shape: King of Rus and Finnland, all the juicy provinces in Russia are in my demesne, lots of prince vassals, 90% of them loyal despite the sucky traits of the king. And because there is a war going on in the Byzzie empire, I get new refugees every month. They start out at 100% loyalty so for some time I can use the guys as advisors... until they plummet to 0% loyalty, too... :eek:o

In my last game I once got an event "Character thinks about faith" where if you choose the first option, you can get rid of all kinds of bad traits like kinslayer, cruel, deceitful, indulgent, proud, and so on, at 10% odds each. I got rid of kinslayer that way. Unbelievable luck!! (I had the king murder a distant relative previously.) Unfortunately my current king is sceptical so I guess he's never going to see that event. GRRRRR!!!!

Ah, so that's what does it! I was getting the 'treason in the air' message all the time, and had no idea what made it happen - I thought it was just a game balance thing to stop you from fielding enormous armies.

But it's tied to courtier loyalty. Thanks! This will make a lot of difference in how I plan things out in future.

Yeah it is leader loyalty. Watch out though it may also happen when the courtier of a vassal is disloyal to his liege (which is usually not something you can do anything about).

I actually didn't know this either until getting the kinslayer-realm duress king and having two overseas expeditions fail because the troops would all desert while at sea. :eek:o

My king is in his 60s and his stats have fallen pretty low too. I think it's funny how he seemed to decline with age, kinda like most people as they get older I guess...

Leviathan07 your troops desert while at sea? Thats funny - "we hate our king so much we would rather drown"

Actually I try to make "mistakes" when I'm too powerful. If I am in 1150 and I control a half of Europe, I let my king die with young sons and this way my kingdom gets deintegrated. I find then a worthy challenge, that of putting my kingdom up again, and what is more: I make my game funnier.
