Hello
I recently reinstalled victoria (together with revolutions) and decided to try out an uncivilized nation, however during my attempt to civilize Siam i noticed that first your tech advance extremly slow, which leads to problem with the industry score, and apperently you need a very high military score to even become civilized.
I ask if anybody of you have managed to civilize Siam and if so how did you do it?

Regards

You might want to check out VIP:R for Revolutions. We did a major overhaul of the civilization process so that as you increase your literacy level, your ability to generate Research Points goes up, while the actual process of becoming civilized requires researching a basket of techs, with lower industry, military and prestige scores than in vanilla. In general, a human player should be able to civilize Siam by the 1890s, perhaps even earlier if you befriend Britain or another major civ and trade/buy techs from them.

There's no point even trying in vanilla. I've done it in VIP, which has a much more sensible set of requirement for civilising.

Anyway that is hightly historical, as today (2009) Siam is still not civilisate for the most of the country.

Local still think white men are necessary over 50 y old, hairy, bacchelor living in San Francisco and millionaires.

Let's remenber that is a country who attacked France in 1940 (GErmany did it also, as Italy) and LOST the war.

So do yourself a favor, do not try to emulate Rama Vth or his crossdresser of don Rama VIth; and maybe play a nice country such Japan, Korea or eventually China

Well you might interprent the war as you wish,
yes Thailand (name changed in 1939)
did attack the vichy french in 1940 over some terriorties (that they lost during Rama Vth's reign) in the then french southeast asia, and yes Thailand lost the naval battle of Koh chang but still managed to capture Laos and parts of Cambodia so the war was really indecisive.
But in the end Thailand got the disputed areas so in that case it was a Thai victory. The problems for Thailand started with the japanese invasion.

Let's focus on the question of gameplay and stop insulting entire nations en masse as being somehow "inferior" to others in the modern world today.
