Personally I like having a lot of different mech variants in the game. Not so much for my use but to increase the variation in OPFOR composition. To this end I downloaded CAB and tried many of the mechs it added. Unfortunately most of them just don't look right to me, either the weapon mounts are off or the textures just don't fit with HBS's work. In the end I was only able to add the Wasp and Stinger from the CAB.

Then I had an idea, I could take existing mechs from the game and make new variants that mirrored the capabilities of mechs not in the game thus increasing OPFOR diversity. Looking at them makes me smile so I figured I'd share them here.

In that spirit I'd like to make this thread one where people can share images of different or odd builds and how that has rendered in game. For example have you ever equipped three autocannons on a Shadowhawk? Have you taken the pod design too far and equipped a Catapult C1 with nothing but four large lasers? Have you got a build you just can't take your eyes off? If so post it here for all to see.

I've been really enjoying the Lbx Hatchetman I have. Especially in tonnage restricted missions.

With its Jump Jets, a true Equites Sagittarii Centurion, holding the high ground and raining death down upon Directorate Forces in these most early of Campaign encounters...

@PauloBrito I personally went with 4xUAC2 on mine for head capping. Having said that does anyone else feel as if the Bullshark M3 was more of an afterthought for HBS brought about when they realised that the Bullshark would otherwise be unavailable in skirmish and multi player? I mean it is the only Heavy Metal mech without a quirk(I suppose you could consider all that free tonnage a quirk) and those LRM tubes don't render in game.

I've had a look at the hard point definitions for it and it only has the single missile prefab for a LRM10 in the first hard point and it shares that location with two of the three energy slots meaning even if you do place your missiles in first if you also equip even one laser then it will sit on top of the missile rack. Hell the bottom image even has an AMS rendered when you have four weapons in the side torso.

@Prussian Havoc I'm a little obsessive with how my builds render in game and can never deck out a Centurion without a weapon in the right arm.

The Bull Shark is amazing mechanically speaking, pity that it looks like someone had a hard landing on a high-G planet.

An aesthetic that I like is the Rifleman with 4 ACs, reminiscent of the original Macross/[Mod edit: IP conflation] design. Originally I had 4 UAC/2s, but switched one pair to LBX's because I like the look of the dissimilar weapons. Also, 4 gatlings was just a bit weird.

The following 'Mechs are some of pirate captain variants from the Hyades Rim mod. It is possible to encounter them in specific contracts or flashpoints in that mod, or even get a starting lance full of these 'Mechs (for fun since they're OP as hell).

I always liked building a Jester-like version of the Catapult K2 in Battletech. I don't know if I'd call it the best build (or best for the K2 for that matter), but I enjoyed it.

It is basically my interpretation of PGI's Jester hero mech. Is build a K2 with 2 LOaders, 2 MLasers, 4 SLasers, and JJs. I'd then armor up a bit and try to cool it the best I could (DHS, Heat Banks, etc...).

With the sharktooth Catapult camo, it looks pretty close.

In reality a good dual A/C5 or especially a dual UA/C5 build with 4 MLasers would probably be more effective. I just like making a different mech variant (even if it has 2 extra small lasers and is missing the XL Engine and dual AMS).

AC20, 3x AC20 ammo racks, two S lasers, 4 jump jets, and the rest is armor (asymmetrically distributed, because there's no need to protect the empty arm)

Then I urbieficated an Enforcer. It's actually better than the urbie Blackjack
