You don't have a problem with the texture because there is no texture involved. :laugh:
Your model needs to be UV mapped.
Make sure your textures have the same name as the 3D model. You can use png, tga, jpeg etc.
You need at least a diffuse map. It would be named yourmodelname_d.png and has to be put in the import folder together with your model.
