Hmz Shiggs, I very much like that idea. looks like that would force proper lane usage, an no crossing/merging between traffic wanting to go 1/4 and 3/4 around it.

The only thing I don't really like about it is that it doesn't look like something you'd find in real life (well, turbo roundabout comes close, but that's normally not highway based).

Just wondering, do people that come from the 'north' in that picture have to drive almost a 360 before they can go 'west'? Wouldn't adding 2 sliplanes to the north and south part not be a lot easier on the roundabout?

Yes, absolutely. I thought about doing that actually, if the capacity demands get much higher. I made a little video to show it flow, nothing too long. I added in some little roads just to try it, it will slow things down for sure but gives another option. It was just testing. sorry for the crappy quality, I don't make youtube vids much. Also it should be mentioned, I only started designing roads like this after looking at your creations, IVIaarten.;)

and yea, I don't worry about realism too much. I mean I like it plausible, but not crazy. If I tried building my cities with highway ramps like in the area I live in, I would be in bad shape. We have ramps coming off straight into avenue stop lights, cloverleafs and all kinds of messes here.

I'm gonna try to really put some more stress on it and see how it goes.. ie zone some high density stuff nearby. I actually deleted the previous ramp in the highway (same type as in my original post), just to see if this one could handle all of it.... it failed, but it took a long while. Most of the other ones I tried failed almost immediately. I didn't want to post that video because it would be easily criticized lol. I would never try to do that long term, but just was doing a stress test to see how much further I could go without redesigning everything.
