So I have a silly question for you all what is the point of having 3 mech bays filled? To me it just seems like wasting money since you can only use 4 mechs at a time.

I play with a home rule of having a pilot per mech chassis, that means both the pilot and the mech has to be fully operational to be dropped, so it helps a lot to have many options. Besides, I like to mix and match on my lances according to mission objectives, I could field an Assault lance by now but I find it interesting to have a light and/or a medium most of the times, and there are heavies better than some assault mechs so I like to use those too.

It's entertainment, not my tax report, I don't need to ride the efficiency curve on this!

3 'mech bays filled is a bit excessive, but having backup 'mechs for a couple of your line fighters makes sense - it allows you to do missions without waiting 7+ days to replace the side torso that got shot off. Time is money as they say.

This is how I am after Artru .... going into it I had a Thunderbolt for an LRM boat and a Grasshopper for tanking and damage, but now I replaced them with a highlander LRM boat and Battlemaster from salvage :D wooot :D

Ps. and I have more than 10 mechs in storage, a couple of thunderbolds, a kintaro, a wolverine etc etc

What the heck is a King Crab? I don't remember seeing that in my BattleTech 3025 technical manual.

Just finished Artru/LosTech Mission. Liking the Highlander a lot. Does feel like I'm rushing story missions a bit. Have progressed through 4 major setups thus far:
  1. Blackjack, Vindicator, Shadow Hawk (SRM) and Centurion (LRM) in early game
  2. Double Shadow Hawk (SRM) + Centurion (LRM) with either Treb. or Griffin
  3. Custom , heavy armor Orion (2x LL, SRMs, MLs) and Dragon (SRMs + ML), Centurion + Other based on mission
  4. Post Artru, after getting some assault mechs, liking Highlander, Orion, Dragon and still have that Centurion.... I need a better LRM boat.

I avoided using the LosTech Highlander because...where would I get the Gauss Ammo to replace what I shot?

Isn't gauss ammo just a giant ball of metal? I mean its a giant magnet propelling metal forward a high speed. There is no explosion involved. It is basically a wrecking ball being shot at a mech.

They're just metal slugs. Easy to manufacture.
Honestly, i feel like you should be able to buy extra Gauss ammo, just because of how simple it is.

Yeah. But since you can't - it must mean that there is something complicated about Gauss ammo. Therefore maybe it takes LosTech to manufacture the ammo system, but not the slugs?

Yeah, you could probably explain it by the specialized ammo bins with some Lostech loading mechanisms themselves. Ammo is easy to replenish, but if the ammo bin itself gets wrecked, you're screwed.

Spartakus: Where the heck did you find that Urban mech! I need to have one! I never encountered one though. :(
You can only find them in stores, there are no guarantees on what planet, as far as i know.

I managed to get an Urbanmech myself, after spending like... 10 million? Cbills on nothing but travelling from system to system looking for parts of Urbanmechs for sale.

Totally worth it though.

I saw 3 parts in a shop on Itrom. And I needed to have them!
And since it would be a shame to let it rot in the mechbay:
