Haven't done anything other than the starting positions of 1419. When exploring the two options, attacking to reduce my over-the-cap troops, I went broke.

When disbanding the troops to under the cap, France and Scotland immediately came poring in and DOW in my weakened condition.

I confess I do not recall what the English starting position is in the vanila game, but I do belive you have a couple of provinces in France. You can quickly win the war there and get a victory event, because the game start with you with a lot of troops on french soil already. After that, just keep yourself below the cap (not too much of course) and build tax colectors...

If atacked, avoid facing the larger AI armies, just go around sieging more provinces then they do yours ;)

Give most of your french provinces away in an immediate peace process if you want to go for the "classical" British strategy, then rely on your navy to blockade any French attacks into Britain. Concentrate your troops on the Scottish border, attack them in the XV century with your leaders and conquer them, then go for Eire (they are very fragile in the beginning). Then build your navy and blockade all important passages & straits and you will be safe.
