Yes, yes it would be too much railroading. Besides, the Renaissance is a vague and broad category for a lot of so saying it definitely started in one single place in real life seems a bit too... simplistic.

The area of Tuscany get a bonus in the spreading of the renaissance. Just like Venetia and Flanders
it spawns in that area most of the time. can't even remember a single occurrence where it didn't spawn in northern italy. close enough, imo.

The idea that the Renaissance was caused by the fall of Constantinople has largely been abandoned by historians as clearly false.It'd be kind of fun if it was scripted to happen in Constantinople if Byzantium doesn't fall; no final great exodus of scholars and their materials, no renaissance in Italy
Byzantine influence on Italian scholarship and art well predates the fall of Constantinople. This various wars (especially the sacking of Constantinople in 1204) and other factors triggered waves of migration to Italy for centuries.
Also, the Renaissance was not something that just appeared, it developed over centuries and various Greek scholars and artists played a major role over that time. The fifteenth century was just when it emerged as a major force.

According to the wiki, only Italy is eligible to spawn it.
This does leave me wondering how badly off the rails things would go if it never spawns...

Renaissance is already tied to Italy, which is a good thing.
On the other hand, Colonialism could use a bit more railroading.

Colonialism spawning anywhere in the British Isles – even Kent – is a nuisance and a half for the rest of Europe, IIRC.
(Honestly, even Algarve can be kind of painful on that score.)

Probably not too much, I don't think much is tied to Renaissance. The only institution which I think would really affect things would be Global Trade as it's tied to the Age system.
All of the institutions should be more railroaded to me part of the fun of playing the rotw should be dealing with European space Marines.
And that falls apart when you can trigger colonialism as ryuku

The printing press is tied to the reformation for a bit I think it was possible to just be stuck in the age of exploration
I believe it requires Germany to not be Catholic
Yup, I'd love to see it appear only in trade centers for a start.
And only in countries that actually have colonies.

I don't know if institutions can spawn if not all of the preceding institutions have spawned yet.
It is 100% possible to prevent it from spawning. You just need yo make sure that: A) no 20 dev italian province is in a State. Now, I have no clue how you'd go about doing so as you'd have to conquer the entirety of Italy in about 6 years while having your capital on an island or outside of Italy and have all of Italy unstated.

Portugal has colonies. And trade centres.
It's just a looooong way from everyone who isn't in Iberia, and Colonialism has really stringent conditions for spreading.

Yes, but that outcome is hilarious where spawning it in the British Isles or one of the less convenient Portuguese provinces is just annoying.
